Honey, no more Whitney Houston biopics.  Let’s stop trying to profit off this woman.

“This woman” deserves her massive legacy to be honored and kept alive. I do agree that IWDWS looks, acts, talks and walks like a cheesy cash-cow though.

I don’t agree with this. Her legacy will live on thtu her music which is still available on all platforms. No more biopic. Let her rest.

The legacies of Queen, Elton John, and Judy Garland live through their music as well, but it’s also undeniable that their respective biopics revived their relevance big time; the same could soon happen to Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday. A good biopic can make a compelling argument as to why an artist should be celebrated and why they deserve to remain relevant even if they’re dead.

The most iconic musicians are never just about the music, as their art is never strictly about the music. They are influential, larger-than-life-personas, and a biopic is an excellent way to explore both their inner humanity and the broader impact of their art. Whitney’s place in pop culture and our collective consciousness is so central that of course she deserves a biopic. She cannot be fully appreciated by just hearing her music – her persona, career and what she represented are important components in her stardom.

As for the “let her rest” part; I agree to the extent that the tragic and scandalous aspects of her life have been milked to bits, which not only is tiring but also does her actual legacy as an artist a huge disservice. I’m done with people turning her life into tragedy porn and her courageous personality into a victim narrative, and in that sense, yes, let’s let her rest.

I want to see a Whitney biopic accomplish what Bohemian Rhapsody (even though it’s a hammy and shallow cliché fest) and Rocketman did: put the artist’s art front and center and bring out their humanity without turning their lives into a soap opera.

But Janelle cannot belt like whitney, like not even close, Id rather see some broadway unknown tbh

She can’t, but they shouldn’t use someone else’s voice anyway. Whitney’s voice was TRULY one of a kind. There will never be a better singer

I was just making a point that Janelle’s acting would certainly be good, and her look.

I’m just glad the movie is being directed by a black woman.

Whitney’s music was more current compared to the artists you listed above. Her music was/is CONSTANTLY covered throughout the world for all musical competitions. Her voice is already celebrated and will continue to be celebrated.

I Will Always Love You is possibly the biggest song of all time. Even without a proper film release, IWALY is close to hitting 1 billion streams on YouTube. Whitney just had a global hit song called Higher Love which hit top 10 in many countries around the world.

I Have Nothing and I Wanna Dance With Somebody are also well remembered songs today that are covered by so many.

Exactly. These are among the reasons why she’s so iconic that a biopic is more than warranted.

When you are named THE VOICE, you deserve a biopic.

    Will Madonna and Whitney compete?

Madonna is still in the early stages of developing the story. We’ll probably get Whitney’s biopic first. Especially now since the production is casting for the lead.

    👑Cicely Tyson (1924-2021)
    👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)
