When it’s all said and done, who among these male actors, will be in the end the one with more Oscar nominations??
We obviously can’t predict the future, but I think it’s fun to speculate (to me the most obvious seems to be DiCaprio, with Washington as the runner-up).
Vote in the poll and comment.

August 8, 2020 at 6:47 am #1203634039Washington (as an actor), he’s in that Meryl stage now where anything remotely good he’s now he’s gonna keep getting nominated until he win’s a 3rd.
Pitt and Cooper will probably end up with more nominations overall (not just acting)

Producer nominations are kinda irrelevant. That’s why to me the top 3 most likely are:
1. DiCaprio

2. Washington
3. BaleAugust 8, 2020 at 3:54 pm #1203634665Washington. Ignore BAFTA and their steadfast indifference to him.

3. BaleIt would still be Washington. Leo isn’t in the same realm of Denzel where he could be the sole nominee of a flop just based on his name. Nobody else could get in for something like Roman J. Israel.

Acting noms:1. Al Pacino (9)

2. Denzel Washington (8)
3. Robert DeNiro (7)
4. Leonardo DiCaprio (6)
5. Tom Hanks (6)
6. Christian Bale (4)
7. Bradley Cooper (4)
8. Brad Pitt (4)
9. Joaquin Phoenix (4)August 9, 2020 at 6:40 am #1203635280Oh, I voted thinking that we were taking into account producing and what not. If that were the case, I think Pitt and Cooper should both be taken a lot seriously here.
Just acting though, I’d say DiCaprio. He’s 20 years younger than Denzel and he rarely chooses projects that miss critically, so he’ll always be in contention. I think Denzel will start to fizzle out soon, with regards to scoring nominations, the way Pacino and De Niro did.

He has to win his 3rd to fizzle. They’re not remotely done with. Also, Ali who is the only other Black actor to have multiple acting Oscar wins is stuck in the supporting category with respect to recognition likely won’t do the unthinkable and win a 3rd himself in Best Actor because it never averages that way for three time winners who have a win in each other category. Bergman, Nicholson, and Streep all represent 2 Lead and 1 Supporting. Which will be the case with Washington. I also, think Washington despite his age still looks young and more vital than his Italian-American peers.

I’m not sure what Ali has to do with this lol. But he doesn’t need to win a 3rd in order to fizzle. Pacino and De Niro both experienced loooong streaks where they weren’t nominated and they only have an Oscar and two Oscars, respectively. It’s not as though he’s going to continue racking in multiple nominations every decade. The only actor to do that is Streep and she’s one of a kind. As you get older, the good parts just become more scarce.

Washington wanted to transition to directing but says the scripts he’s being offered now are the strongest of his career. Actors aren’t restricted by age headling movies like their female counterparts.

Lol, they still are to some degree. There’s a reason why actors like Pacino and De Niro went 20+ years without getting any nominations. I think it’s a bit naive to act like ageism still isn’t a thing to some extent. What movies released this last year had solid lead roles for men or women over the age of 60? I never said that he couldn’t still headline movies, of course he can. I’m just saying the quality of the movies and from which directors they come from likely won’t be the same as they were when he was younger.
