Wanted to have a fun, light, and respectful conversation on who you guys would consider to be the true SUPERSTARS of this decade?
There are many celebrities but not all deserve the title Superstar. Of course you have those that paved the way like the Hepburns, Charlie Chapman, Bette Davis, Sidney Poitier, Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, etc…. You also have the Superstars that dominated from 85-05 like Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Jim Carey, Whoopi, Nicole Kidman, Keanue Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo D, Jackie Chan, Johnny Depp etc… In my opinion, SUPERSTARS are icons whose names were globally known regardless of the popularity of their films. They do not seek for attention, but it surely follows them. The SUPERSTARS try to stay out of the limelight and don’t have to use social media whenever they don’t get their way.
Who do you guys think are the SUPERSTARS of this generation or those with potential? I ask this question because I feel like many celebrities run to social media for everything. I miss the days when stars would say “no comment” or “I wish them the best.” The STARS seemed to be more quiet although they were massive but that seems to have gone away.
I would definitely some are…
-Jennifer Lawrence = Box office starlet, Oscar winner, Globally known films
-Scarlett Johannson = Box Office megastar, Global Sex-Symbol (like Marilyn and Elizabeth Taylor, memorable films
-Emma Watson = Box Office star, ICONIC and memorable roles, Globally known
Some potentials I would say are…
-Robert Pattinson (had a huge following with the Twilight series but is now an indie King. He has GREAT potential)
-Emma Stone (I know she has a following but she, in my opinion is not quite there. She does have an Oscar, but I wont put her in that category yet)
-Chris Helmsworth (He is very popular for being Thor but that is it thus far. He is the most talented actor of his Avengers cast in my opinion, but he needs big projects outside of MCU)
You may not agree with what I put and that is fine, but who would you consider to be the SUPERSTARS of this generation?May 23, 2019 at 6:49 pm #1202906389
Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Emma Stone, and Lupita Nyong’oMay 23, 2019 at 7:05 pm #1202906408
These queens to startMay 23, 2019 at 7:15 pm #1202906426
I truly believe queen Zendaya is on her way to being one of the superstars of this generationMay 23, 2019 at 7:41 pm #1202906447
Robert Downey, Jr.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Denzel WashingtonMay 24, 2019 at 1:29 am #1202906655
How is Emma Watson on your list?May 24, 2019 at 7:54 am #1202906896
Definitely Robert Downey Jr. Which is weird since it was basically for one role. Sure, he has Sherlock Holmes, but one can often forget that those films existed. I do love Due Date, though. Did/will any actor make more money than him in the last 10 years?
These three are crazy since Hollywood standards and history would tell you that they are done, forgotten or has beens with a supporting role here and there at this point.
The Rock managed to become a huge star.
Tom CruiseMay 24, 2019 at 8:11 am #1202906930
Leonardo DiCaprio completely rocked this decade.Without any franchise movie in this heavy times of franchise/sequels/prequels era He remained an actor without this stuff and yet maintained his status as one of biggest box office draw of this decade. His numbers at box office have actually grown with every movie he gave.Inception,Wall Street,Shutter Island,Django Unchained,Great Gatsby,Revenant,Once Upon a Time in Hollywood(now hopefully) all commercially and critically successful movies. He will also probably end 10s with 4Oscar nominations and 1 win.Simply terrific decade for him and a powerful artistic SUPERSTARMay 24, 2019 at 12:22 pm #1202907289
Christian Bale!May 24, 2019 at 12:45 pm #1202907308
These 2 African-American queens who are constantly breaking new grounds for actresses of color. We stan history-making icons.May 24, 2019 at 2:12 pm #1202907347
Actors are hardly ever “globally known” but Leonardo DiCaprio is more than a global superstar, he’s iconic and already in “legend” territory.May 24, 2019 at 3:08 pm #1202907408
We don’t have superstars anymore. Not necessarily anymore. A handful of people get to be institutions onto themselves.May 24, 2019 at 3:52 pm #1202907497

I agree with you.In today’s Hollywood only Leo is the one who I can say Superstar.Other big box office draws are fueled by franchises
