Oscar ballots are in hand, and surely there must be a surprise acting winner a la Olivia Colman (‘The Favourite’) beating out Glenn Close (‘The Wife’). So, who could be this years Olivia Colman?

Only ones I can see are Florence Pugh and Adam Driver.

All four acting categories are locked. Driver probably is the strongest runner-up but he still won’t upset

Playing devil’s advocate, I’d say ScarJo over Renee.

Johansson NEEDS BAFTA if she wants any hope of winning for Jojo Rabbit.

Do people forget that Olivia won the Globe and BAFTA? she wasn’t a complete surprise her film also had 10 nominations.

No one. The Comedy/Musical Globe winner wasn’t nominated and Renée is easily winning the BAFTA. It’s a locked race.

People also don’t seem to comprehend the Academy’s willful disdain for Close despite 7 acting nods with a double decade break between the last two.

Renée is the most vulnerable simply because her movie isn’t nominated for Best Picture and I doubt many Oscar voters will have watched it. In which case ScarJo would qualify as this year’s Colman.

Not that I think is gonna happen tho.

Dern is the most likely (I could see Pugh or Johanson win the bafta then the oscar, ALA mark rylance). Pheniox, and Zellweger are the biggest lock. Pitt is also pretty safe.

No one. Colman had Globe, BAFTA, AACTA, the most critics awards, a BP film that topped nominations count (vs her comp being a sole nominee of her film and hence low priority screener), British/European voting bloc.

Nobody has anywhere near those set of circumstances.

    Nobody.

But if you need a name, Johansson in either category.

I did watch JoJo and I liked her, but this is a wasted nomination. I can see from just the Richard Jewel trailers that perhaps it wasn’t Bates who stole JLo’s nomination.
