Theyre many actors/actresses out there doing great work and then they’re a
few who receive nominations and awards and you wonder why
people don’t see what you see. Their performances don’t do anything for
you and try as you may to connect to their characters it just doesnt
It’s not a crime to say someone is overrated and should not be seen as bashing either, just throwing that out there. Yes it is all subjective but the point of forums are to discuss things. It would be interesting to know who which actors people dont connect with.January 31, 2012 at 2:24 am #53740
Fanboy wise, every actor and actress has their own share of nominations.
But awards wise, I’m pretty sure that Winslet has been overnominated lately. I haven’t been impressed with her post-Eternal Sunshine. I find most of her Oscar noms after that both undeserving: Little Children and The Reader. And while I’m happy that she finally has an Oscar, I’m one of the few who thinks it should have been for Revolutionary Road. But lately, she chooses all this award-baity roles (Little Children, Revolutionary Road, The Reader. Mildred Pierce, Carnage), and she all got nominated for any awards consideration for all of those. I want more of The Holiday every once in a while.January 31, 2012 at 2:49 am #53741
Many times I saw the Oscar goes to the opposite compititor. You will think that this movie is excellent and will get a sure Oscar but will happen opposite. The other film gets a Oscar. This is somewhat different situation and completely depends on a juries. I must think this year Harry Potter will surely win a Oscar.January 31, 2012 at 9:08 am #53742
definitely Reese Witherspoon…her Oscar win is the biggest scandal in history in my opinion..even in the comedy category at the Globes I found Laura Linney in The Squid and the Whale a lot better, no to mention Mrs Huffman for Transamerica.January 31, 2012 at 9:15 am #53743
Meryl Streep. I’d say Kate Winslet but now that she has her Oscar she won’t be nominated again for at least ten years. Thank God for that!January 31, 2012 at 9:30 am #53744
Reese Witherspoon. It’s absurd that she has an Oscar. Followed closely by Natalie Portman.January 31, 2012 at 10:07 am #53745
Easy – Daniel Day-Lewis
(Before his brilliant performance in TTSS, I would have said Gary Oldman, so this shows one should always keep an open mind).January 31, 2012 at 10:19 am #53746
Hm.. I could name a bunch of people, but for every overrated performance there’s a performance by the actor that I also enjoy.
BUT. I HATE it when people describe a performance as “luminous” or “brilliant” or “stunning” or “mesmerizing” when, in all actuality, it’s only “mesmerizing” because the actor or actress is just beautiful to look at. I feel like people are so blinded by beauty in performances sometimes that they mistake the trickery of filmmaking for great acting.January 31, 2012 at 10:25 am #53747
Betty White is recently the most overrated person alive. She was fantastic in the good ol’ days but now all she does is jokes about sex.January 31, 2012 at 10:26 am #53748
Most overrated actor/actress : Jennifer Connelly
Most underrated actress: Reese WitherspoonJanuary 31, 2012 at 10:26 am #53749
Everyone! No matter how much an actor is liked there is always that one person who says they aren’t all that.January 31, 2012 at 10:28 am #53750

A little bird told me she wasn’t very nice to her stepchildren.January 31, 2012 at 10:38 am #53751

I wasnt going to venture into this thread for this very reason……reassuring to see I can agree with someone.January 31, 2012 at 1:11 pm #53752
George Clooney, for me is the actor ive just never got. Other then Syianna ive just never felt that he conveyed real emotion so i could feel his characters. Even in The Descendants he just ok, shailene woodley to me is the real star of that movie.
