Was rewatching Phantom Thread earlier and the man’s got an insane way with actors. Got me curious which actors people wanna see in his next movie. Specifically looking for people who haven’t been in one of his movies before

What’s interesting is that he’ll mention an actor years in the past that he wants to work with someday and then you’ll forget and he’ll suddenly be working with him long down the road.

I mean lets assume that Sean Penn is in the movie and wasn’t just visiting set. He’s been talking about working with Penn forever. Aside from Downey Jr. I can’t think of another actor off the top of my head he said he wants to work with but hasn’t/

I could see LaKeith Stanfield going well in one of his films.

He said repeatedly that he wants to work Leonardo DiCaprio because he was obsessed with him since “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”.

He was the first choice as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights, and he was offered a role in his upcoming one, but he turned it down and got replaced by Bradley Cooper.

I think a collaboration between these two is very likely to happen in the future.

He often has someone specific in mind for his main roles. I remember Manville saying she didn’t have to audition – PTA just called her and offered her the part. There are plenty of actors he can get the best out of with the right role (Krieps in Phantom Thread being a great example).

Kirsten Dunst! He recommended her to Von Trier for Melancholia, so I guess he must have her on his radar

He did an interview after making Phantom Thread where he was explicitly asked about Kirsten Dunst and he said “she can do no wrong”. When she was making On Becoming a God in Central Florida, she said that being an executive producer, she got people from PTA films to join the crew because he “has he best people.” They clearly want to work with each other, WHY hasn’t it happened yet!?

Interestingly, the same is true of Yorgos Lanthimos & Dunst—he was originally supposed to make On Becoming a God with her but then had scheduling issues and she almost dropped out at the time but stuck around because she loved the writing. I know one of the show’s writers who told me that they had this like deal to work together as soon as they could after lol.

Also in the same interview where he talked effusively about Dunst, he mentioned how he hadn’t seen The Beguiled yet and said the same about Elle Fanning, that she’s wonderful. I found it funny that he didn’t say anything about Colin Farrell or Nicole Kidman in that moment.

Elizabeth Moss in a PTA film would be interesting.

To sum up some opinions (and add mine), it will be interesting to see PTA explore female sexuality/relationship/psychology/life with two female actors: Kirsten Dunst and Elisabeth Moss.
