I think Rooney Mara is the lead in ‘Carol’. Cate Blanchett’s category placement would be so confusing; neither a lead per say but faraway from being a supporting. My preferred lineup would have been:
Actress in a Leading Role
Brie Larson, Room
Rooney Mara, Carol
Charlotte Rampling, 45 years (Should have win: a performance that is breathtaking in its underlying complexity)
Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn
Charlize Theron, Mad Max: Fury Road
Actress in a Supporting Role
Cate Blanchett, Carol (Should have won: Talk about an iconic performance that enthralls viewers! Cannot imagine anybody else in her role.)
Jennifer Jason Leigh, The Hateful Eight
Rachel McAdams, Spotlight
Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs
Alicia Vikander, Ex-Machina (LOVED her in Ex Machina and was equally deserving, but not for the Danish Girl though)March 24, 2021 at 1:43 am #1204154616
Blanchett was my favorite but Oscarless Mara should have won. Carol SHOULD have won something on top of Picture + Director noms
Theron also should have been nominated over Lawrence’s mess
Best Actress - Viola Davis, Frances McDormand
Best Actor - Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman
Best Supporting Actor - Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman
Best Picture - Nomadland
Best Director - Chloé Zhao
SAG Ensemble - Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
Best Cinematography - NomadlandMarch 24, 2021 at 3:31 am #1204154656This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.March 24, 2021 at 3:49 am #1204154666
I voted for Cate Blanchett but honestly I would’ve also supported a win from Charlotte Rampling and I think Rooney Mara should’ve been in Lead as well…not that her being lead is some sort of controversial opinion.
I did like Larson though and felt she was worthy of the nomination.

Charlotte Rampling. Any of them would’ve been a worthy winner except Lawrence. I’m totally fine with Larson winning but I don’t understand how she swept that year. It wasn’t the best performance in the lineup, she wasn’t an it girl, nor was she overdue.March 24, 2021 at 5:25 am #1204154713
Room & Brooklyn were the ONLY two movies I saw and after Brie Larson’s performance, I can see why she won because she was pretty good. I really wanted Saoirse Ronan to win because she was fantastic in that film PLUS I love Irish moviesMarch 24, 2021 at 6:30 am #1204154815

For me, it was always baffling that Larson won an Oscar when the best part of the film and the acting MVP, Jacob Tremblay, didn’t even get a nomination.
Ronan would have been my winner.March 24, 2021 at 8:04 am #1204154977

There was goodwill from her Short Term 12 snub. That was a great performance.

Larson gave a bad performance, worst in the category. I actually like Lawrence’s performance; my favorite of her collaborations with Russell. Of the nominees, Rampling is an easy win for me.
Personally, Mara should have been nominated here. Hoss should have won for Phoenix.March 24, 2021 at 10:22 am #1204155407
Rampling! Hands down. Never seen her better. An amazing performance
Emily Blunt – Sicario
Saoirse Ronan – Lady Bird
Cate Blanchett – Carol
Charlotte Rampling – 45 Years
Rooney Mara – Carol
Dark horses: Charlize Theron, Alicia Vikander,March 24, 2021 at 1:54 pm #1204155932
Charlote Rampling in 45 Years.
This situation is kind of similar to 2013 when IMO, Riva should have defeated Lawrence and 2017, when queen Huppert shoud have won over Stone.
But among the it girls Lawrence, Larson and Stone, the one whose win I don’t find the most sickening is definitely Larson.
