A lot of people could call them out and a lot did. What they need is a funny host, which Ricky Gervais is not. In the slightest.

He’s funnier than Kimmel, Fallon, Meyers, Chris Rock, and Neil Patrick Harris combined.

And who have been called out last night?

I’d say just as funny as Jimmy Fallon and Neil Patrick Harris (not at all) but not the rest (and that’s not really a high bar).

And who have been called out last night?

Did only last night count? Not previous years or other ceremonies?

Kristen Bell is awful. But Tiffany and Maya = a dream.

Every time that Kumail was on the screen last night he owned it. Rudolph and Haddish were also great, but Kumail was a highlight of the entire night for me. If Kumail hosted, the academy would show their diversity with what I believe would be the first Asian host and actually make the political commentary funny unlike Kimmel.

In the end, his success as a host depends on the writers. A few years ago, he co-hosted the Indie Spirits and he was absolutely dull. He was terrific at the Oscars, but I still remember that Indies fiasco

Frances McDormand. It would be over in half an hour.

Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.

Who I don’t want to host: James Corden, Tiffany Haddish, John Mulaney, Oprah, Colbert.

Since it’s ABC, I don’t think they would give it to any other late night host, which is fine by me. Corden hosting would be the year I stop watching the Oscars. Haddish is funny, but too funny for the Oscars. Gervais killed it every year at the Globes, though I doubt he would do it again, anywhere. Oprah is just a big no. I guess Kimmel is fine.

Don’t tell me you consider Oprah’s vomit-inducing speech at the globes calling out….

Likely it will be Kimmel again because its ABC.
If they want big ratings perhaps Ellen or Timberlake.
I think Kumail would be awesome.
Who I don’t want is Corden or Haddish.
But again i’m thinking they will just go with Kimmel again.

I think last night proved you don’t even need a host. I’m not sure what they cut, but I assume some because once they started to go over the time, it seemed like you didn’t see Jimmy Kimmel anymore. Why go to all that work, when some of it will have to be cut for time anyway? You could have some A-lister or legend open the show and present the first award, or have some clip montage open it, or even begin with a musical number involving the first presenter. The host(s) is typically who makes these things run long and other than having an opening monologue, none of it that I’ve seen in the past few years is even worth it (and I’m sick of the gags like surprising people in that movie theater. It seems like everyone has to do their own version of Ellen’s selfie now, and it does nothing but waste time).

    AGREED.
