In hoping producers continue the lengthy tradition of inviting last year’s acting winners to return… let’s hope Jessica Chastain, Troy Kotsur and Ariana DeBose are already signed up.
Will Smith will not be returning to present Best Actress.
Whenever there has needed to be a replacement, the general tradition for the last 30+ years is that someone from the same category would be chosen. Assuming that means they are narrowing down to a previous Best Actor winner, who should present Best Actress on March 12?
Here is a list of all the living Best Actor winners. Make you case for your top 2-3 choices.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 19, 2023 at 8:43 pm #1205310567I will stick with my idea I had in the other thread about possible presenters at this years Oscars, but considering the fact this is the 95th anniversary of the Oscars, I hope they do something similar to what they did in 2009.
Instead of having one past winner present the Oscar (presumably the previous years winner, which is not possible this year), why not have five past winners and living legends present each acting award this year? I thought that was one of the most magical moments ever at the 2009 Oscars and a truly lovely surprise as well. Win or lose, it was pretty special to see all the nominees individually celebrated and honored by someone.
And in an effort to celebrate the 95th Oscars and the history that milestone encompasses, why not have a winner from each of the past five decades present the award? It could look something like this:
1980’s: Ben Kingsley or F. Murray Abraham
1990’s: Tom Hanks
2000’s: Sean Penn
2010’s: Colin Firth
2020’s: Joaquin Phoenix or Anthony HopkinsIt would not have to be those exact names above; these are just examples if they were to use this format.
It would be nice to see them pull out all the stops considering this is the 95th Oscars and do something extra special like above. Considering the absolute disaster last year’s show was, it would be nice to see some prestige, honor, and class return to the show.

Jessica Lange, Holly Hunter, Meryl Streep, Kathy Bates, Sissy Spacek.

DDL gave her her first Best Actress Oscar, and Eddie was given his Oscar by her, so either one would be a nice full circle moment.

I think it’s a mistake to produce the show expecting that a particular person will win a specific award— they should learn from the Chadwick experience and not do that again.

In both cases, we would be winning.
That said, I realized last night I am done. Cate won BAFTA and I am in “que sera, sera” mode. She amassed slew of great awards for Lydia, and honestly, if she wins SAG and Oscar, it would be extra joy for me, if she doesn’t and Michelle prevails, I’ll do happy dances around the house. I said this like a month ago on Best Actress thread, but I truly realized it yesterday.
