Not sure if I’m right about the year but I think Rain Man was 1988 so maybe Cruise and Hoffman? I remember it was the late 80s

Definitely Meryl Streep. After 20 nominations, she deserves to present the top prize of the evening.

I think they deny her the honor because she’s a constant nominee.

Producer Jan Chapman who the Oscars tried killing off in their In Memoriam segment. I mean, Oscars love a comeback – and they at least owe her that – right?

I was shocked that Sidney Poitier didn’t present it this year, given that it was the 50th anniversary of both In the Heat of the Night and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (both Best Picture nominees), plus it landing only a few days after his 90th birthday and with the ever-present diversity issues from the year before.

Maybe next year they’ll take advantage of the fact that it will be 50 years since he first presented Best Picture, the second time having been in 1996.

I agree with: Denzel, Barry Jenkins or Jack Nicholson one last time, since he’s coming out of retirement to redo Toni Erdmann. This is the last chance we get with him. It might even be fun if he hosted or co-hosted.

I don’t really see how it’d be our “last chance” with Jack unless he’s going to die before 2019, but he’d be fun. I doubt Beatty or Dunaway would ever WANT to do it again, but Chazelle and Jenkins together would be a classy and funny duo.
