Who was REALLY the best winner of Best Actress of 1990-1999? Below are the Oscars’ picks. Out of these 10, I vote for Kathy Bates! Who do YOU choose?

    1990 – Kathy Bates, Misery

1991 – Jodie Foster, Silence of the Lambs

1992 – Emma Thompson, Howards End

1993 – Holly Hunter, The Piano

1994 – Jessica Lange, Blue Sky

1995 – Susan Sarandon, Dead Man Walking

    1996 – Frances McDormand, Fargo

1997 – Helen Hunt, As Good as It Gets

1998 – Gwyneth Paltrow, Shakespeare in Love

    1999 – Hilary Swank, Boys Don’t Cry

Hilary Swank but except for Jessica Lange’s hammy work that is a damn good list.

    H

    Swank, 1999.

    Quoted for truth.

Hilary Swank’s Boys Don’t Cry is in a league of its own. Unmatched. Out of nowhere. Just crazy spectacular.

Annie Wilkes is a psycho legend but Swank gives an all time best.

I haven’t watched all the contenders so I don’t have the elements to draw conclusions, but I certainly have a deep affection for what Frances McDormand did in Fargo (which is one of my favourite movies, but I also consider McDormand’s acting objectively great there).

Some terrific performances here. I’ll go with Holly Hunter, who has the most original and mysterious character of the lot. There is not a trace of gimmick about her character’s muteness, and she has just the right balance of subtlety and emphasis in her gestures.

Foster (one of the 10 all-time best Lead Actress winners), though Bates, Sarandon and Swank are brilliant too.

Great list except for Paltrow. My choice is Holly Hunter.

Sarandon and Swank are the only 90’s Best Actress winners with their entire nomination count in Best Actress.
