A few I think:
– Willem Dafoe
– Elizabeth Debicki
– Adam Driver
– Julia Garner
– Scarlett Johansson
– Vanessa Kirby
– Lesley Manville
– Carey Mulligan
– Rosamund Pike
– Margot Robbie
– Saoirse Ronan
– Michelle Williams
– ZendayaReplyFYC:
"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")
January 5, 2021 at 10:49 am #1203964021Carey Mulligan better be. And soon.
The White Michelle situation is getting ridiculous… I guess it’ll ultimately come down to the role because the talent is there.
Dafoe should also already have one by now.
Saoirse needs to move beyond her comfort zone (she was great in Lady Bird, for example); people might be taking her for granted. Kirby is just beginning, trust me.
As for the rest, they could. Honestly, I don’t follow (nor care about) their careers much.

Girl better achieve that triple crown. We are rooting for her.

January 5, 2021 at 11:44 am #1203964174Perhaps Richard Jenkins. He seems like one of those who gets Best Supporting Actor as a career award, and he’s already in his 70s.

January 5, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1203964318Is it too unrealistic to think that Colman’s win will open the door for more British TV girls?
Guess Billie Piper is the most obvious sense they oddly have similar career paths and she just had her Tyrannosaur/Broadchurch moment in Yarma/I Hate Suzie and is now slowly branching into European cinema similar to how Colman latched did in 2014-2016(ish).
Wouldn’t be shocked if it eventually happens for someone like Sarah Lanchesire or Jenna Coleman too.

I don’t know about Coleman but Piper and Lancashire are very possible. In fact I think Piper will be an Oscar nominee by the end of the decade. I Hate Suzie has been a hit in the Anglosphere and in the US looks like it might go on the Broadchurch trajectory (niche hit and acclaimed British show) and audiences in the States are discovering her in the same way as Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager) with Penny Dreadful and I Hate Suzie. As you said she’s growing on the European cinema scene so all she needs to do is book a role like Colman.
Lancashire seems like someone who also could do it. I do think Hawes is getting nominated à la Manville in something eventually because she has been branching her way outwards to British film in a massive way since Bodyguard.
