Winslet is at 7 nods but she has received a total of one nod in the last 11 years. She’s not as popular as she used to be. She’s one of these actresses who lose momentum once they win, which is nearly all actresses except for La Streep.
In my opinion, Winslet will probably win a second in supporting at some point. But I would never say she’s more versatile or interesting than Kidman. Kidman is a brave actor – in her choices of projects and in her approach to character. She’s often fearless. Winslet is predictable, which makes a lot of her work truly boring. I can predict how she would approach every scene. Every scene. Kidman is not predictable. Enough said.

Just the last decade she failed to get Oscar nominations for “Carnage” and “Labor Day” while “Wonder Wheel” went nowhere…

And she’s working way more than Kidman (that’s good and bad at the same time).
Winslet has been a serious contender just once (Steve Jobs) in an entire decade.
So for more nominations I bet on Kidman, for a win Winslet is more likely to pull off a real transofrmative performance.
I hope Ammonite is her big comeback.May 19, 2020 at 1:38 am #1203489385People saying Winslet was the runner up twice is hilarious because we don’t have vote totals. You don’t know that.

just last decade, Kidman failed to get Oscar nomination for Paperboy, Destroyer, Boy Erased, Bombshell, The Beguiled, Killing of a Sacred Deer, while Winslet didn’t even have a movie in 2010, 2012, 2018, or 2019 that was eligible to get an Oscar nomination for her, unless we reaching and dinging her for not getting a nomination for voice acting in animated movies. Winslet only missed once prior to last decade when she got a GG nom (Revolutionary Road) and that’s if ur counting her knocking herself out with her own category or penalizing her for not getting duo nominations and I’ll include her missing for Leaving Neverland and not being able to get duo nominations. Winslet is more consistent getting nominated when she has precursor support and that’s a fact.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 2:51 am #1203489428I have high expectations for “Ammonite” because I really liked “God’s Own Country” but I fear it could be a bit “dry” for the Academy, it’s also quite a small British movie that could fly under the radar.
As for Kidman, I think she stands a chance at a nom (and perhaps a win) in supporting if “The Female Persuasion” gets made.

I think it’s pretty obvious. For Sense & Sensibility she won SAG and BAFTA, while for Steve Jobs she won GG and BAFTA. Or in other words she won every time Alicia wasn’t nominated for The Danish Girl.

Not sure on who will win a second one first, but others have mentioned that Winslet has 7 Oscar nominations (3 in Lead and 4 in Supporting) and Nicole Kidman has 4 Oscar nominations (3 in Lead and 1 in Supporting).
Maybe they will do a movie together.

This. People flaunt runner-up (who was second) as if that’s some vaidaton for their favorite who didn’t win. Most of the time, we don’t know who it was if there’s a sweeper and it really doesn’t matter. For example, in Colman/Close race we know who was the second but in Zellweger sweep? Not so much. Winner matters while nominations add up to “due” factor down the line.
That said, I vote Kidman. She tends to pick roles that aren’t AMPAS thing but we see that they can deviate from the patern under the right circumstances. Winslet is more bait driven and as someone pointed out before, seems like aping Blanchett’s career choices. Ammonite = Carol. Something whose name escapes me = Blue Jasmine.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 8:19 am #1203489750100% Kidman. Winslet’s career isn’t in the right place for her to win a second within the next few years. Outside of Steve Jobs, what has she had to show for on the film side? She’s been in flop after flop, unfortunately.
Kidman has had a career rejuvenation in the past couple of years. While she seems to be more focused on TV, she’s still done a few supporting roles in films that have been in the awards conversation (to some extent). She also is working a lot(!) so it feels kind of evident that she’ll find herself in a BP nominated film in the next couple of years.

This is starting to get extremely annoying. Is more than obvious why people say (I say it to) Kate was runner-up twice. Because we have precursors results that prove it. Like I said before, she won two industry awards for Sense & Sensibility (SAG and BAFTA) and an industry precursor (BAFTA) and GG for Steve Jobs. So people don’t say she was the runner-up, just because they feel like it. Look at the races and then have an opinion on either we have a clear runner-up or if it’s almost impossible to guess.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2020 at 8:45 am #1203489777My vote goes to Kidman only because I like her more. But it’s really anyone’s guess. I mean Renee Zellweger just won a second Oscar. Three years ago that would have been laughable.
