I don’t know what people expect from Winslet. She won an Oscar, then she won an Emmy and was nominated for an other Oscar, winning multiple other awards. She had acclaim for Mildred Pierce, Carnage, Steve Jobs and The Dressmaker and some good notices for A Little Chaos, Triple 9, Wonder Wheel (as much as the movie sucked, she was still very liked by the critics) and Labor Day. I mean I do understand that people are underwhelmed by her recent career choices (me too), but let’s not act like she didn’t have success in the last 10 years, because she’s had more success than 95% of the acting industry.
I do prefer Kidman these days, but as of the original question which some of you ignore big time to bash Winslet’s career choices instead, Winslet was ACTUALLY close for a second win, unlike Kidman.

That said, she’s not winning her 3rd one any time soon. Probably in 10-20 years from now.
Definitely less than 20.
ReplyCopy URLMay 24, 2018 at 12:38 pm #1202553299As Kidman is my all-time favourite actress, and she’s in a Renaissance of sorts in her career, she’s my pick of the two. Winslet will probably be nominated again but I just can’t see her winning a second time.

May 24, 2018 at 1:29 pm #1202553330I’ll just say Blanchett is winning first her 3rd. Even next year. #Oscars2019
Currently, my bet is on Close winning Best Actress.

That Lee Miller biopic has the right elements of Oscar bait flop if you ask me.

Baby girl, Kidman has done all of those things too. And the original question was which one was more likely to receive another Oscar but you took it as some sort of stanning thing and started comparing careers. Cause baby if we look at the recent years, Kidman wins. And I’m not even a Kidman stan. She has also won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and nominated for two Oscars after her win. She just had a huge sweep with one of the most acclaimed shows on TV today. Winslet was *close* to winning by technicality because if you paid attention to the race, Winslet was never the frontrunner and Alicia Vikander (and Kristen Stewart) were hogging the critics and the acclaim. Winslet only beat Vikander when it came to Ex Machina and not The Danish Girl. And while Steve Jobs had good reviews, it flopped HARD at the box office and got bad press and lost all steam in the race. Lion, while baity and less acclaim, was more successful both awards wise and financially. The Dressmaker, A Little Chaos, Wonder Wheel, The Mountain Between Us, Movie 43 (regarded as one of the worst movies of all time),Collateral Beauty, Labor Day, Divergent movies all were flops and shit that no one cared about.
I was just making some really good points about both women career choices. Both had flops, both got a successful Emmy-run and both got Oscar noms after their actual Oscar wins. These are the facts. Also, box-office wise neither are better than the other. So as people compare the two, and mostly go with Kidman, it’s important to say it out loud, that objectively both women went on the same path.
But people keep skipping my main point. Winslet was the ALTERNATIVE to Vikander all the way through. So she was actually close to that second Oscar unlike Kidman. All I’m saying is that no matter that people prefer Kidman and think she will win an Oscar before Winslet, real life it almost went differently. Sadly, Vikander (meh – I dislike the shit out of her win) was probably still unbeatable, but hey, Winslet still won a few important awards for her FILM ROLES unlike Kidman.
In the last 10 years:
Winslet: 1 Oscar nom (a runner-up place), 1 GG win in 3 noms, 1 Bafta win, 1 SAG nom
Kidman: 2 Oscar noms, 3 GG noms, 1 Bafta nom, 3 Sag nomsSo all I’m saying is that it’s absolutely up in the air who will win the second first. Both women are popular.
