Yeah, there is often heartbreak at the Emmys because voters just don’t care to reward someone for outside reasons.

Based on that, I would say that Leo would be in serious trouble this year. But, and this is a big qualifier, perhaps the old saps are more sentimental, or entrenched in the Hollywood scene than the Emmy voters.

Whereas the Emmys seem to exist in their own bubble, the Oscar race seems to be dominated by campaigns, which could influence voters. I am reminded of when Tom told everyone of a voter who watched ‘The Hurt Locker’ and hated it only to do a complete 180 once it was obvious that the momentum had shifted.

A tape system would not change sheep-like behavior.

Something to remember in this crazy hypothetical situation is that Leo wouldn’t even have the sentimental factor this year because he probably would have won by now (if for nothing else, the Wolf of Wall Street – that would have made a killer tape).

DiCaprio would have a shot because the tape system isn’t completely averse to sentiment.Sure it is.  There are so many examples.
Such as?
Steve Carell and Tony Shalhoub losing to Jim Parsons for their final seasons of The Office and Monk, Michael C. Hall losing when he had cancer to Bryan Cranston a third time, Cary Joji Fukanaga beating Vince Gilligan’s direction of the Breaking Bad finale, the Lost finale winning only one of its eight nominations, direction of the 30 Rock finale losing to yet another Modern Family episode, Kathryn Joosten not winning after she died.

Ughhh. I completely misunderstood what you said. I thought you were backing up Zooey’s point. Yes, I definitely agree with you.

I would predict Michael Fassbender, Brie Larson, Mark Ruffalo and Kate Winslet, but I could see Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
