Portman seems like the kind of person who can take or leave acting. Odd to say since she’s been doing this since age 12, but I think she takes roles that move her or look good on paper, auteurs that she wants to collaborate with, locations that are near her family, quick shooting times, etc. Using those criteria, I can see where a spotty filmography can occur of high highs and low lows. If she never acted again, I think she would be fine with that. She’s still an A-lister, still rich, still an Oscar winner, still an Ivy Leaguer. Instead, she settles into being an activist, intellectual, socialite, director, wife, mother, etc. I actually see that being Portman’s final act anyways when Hollywood roles start drying up for her.

There’s still more good roles for her to come yet….:)

A linguist breaks down Portman’s accent at 1:02. She does get a real lot right. But her timbre is naturally different, and that’s arguably harder to change than breathing pattern and variation in pitch. I also don’t really think Portman captured Jackie’s strangely detached nature. Jackie seemed to exist in her own reality, and Portman is simply too “knowing.”
