His evolution as an actor is amazing, going from comedy hottie to a huge dramatic force, his movies have been nominated to A LOT of Oscars and yet they either fail or win only one award.

For Silver Linings Playbook the only award went to Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle went home 0/10, American Sniper was a surprising multiple nominee winning a Sound award and A Star Is Born only won Gaga an Original Song one.

Are there other actors with a bad track record? He is already a seven time nominee in a very short amount to time and should have won for A Star Is Born (he won the Goldderby Award for Best Actor).

He was building momentum that should break with ASIB as this was really the shot for an Actor win.
Let’s forever blame HFPA for this.

His films have typically had major drawbacks that prevent anything other than 0-1 wins.

Basically, American Hustle’s source for awards was Lawrence (save for Adams’ Globe) and when she lost to Nyong’o, it wasn’t going to win anything else (it could’ve won Picture if Lawrence succeeded though). The same with SLP, Lawrence was the source of attention. He could’ve won the Globe for it, but they went with Jackman instead. American Sniper aired too late to make a splash as a major winner, but had enough of a success to garner some major nominations.

In regards to A Star is Born, he could’ve easily won Actor at the Globes and then made it all the way to the Oscars, but he campaigned for the wrong category. In addition, the film released too early and it got backlash. The Globes also seem to basically determine the winners to a tea now, and when BR over-performed with Picture and Actor while ASIB underperformed with Song, the rest of the awards followed. They also have no taste.

Like JGibson said, he was building momentum for years and ASIB would’ve been perfect, but Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and his Bernstein film might be able to change his luck.

The HFPA was mad because ASIB was submitted in Drama instead of Musical/Comedy so they essentially snubbed the film entirely.
    A real-life tragedy 🙁

I don’t really buy that. Bohemian Rhapsody at first was a comedy/ musical contender (it even has more comic elements than ASIB) and still was overawarded in Drama. They just paid Bradley dust.

A Star Is born was his major shot at best actor but he campaigned heavily for best director….ignoring best actor entirely. The HFPA decided to give everything to Bohemian Rhapsody so as not to seem predictable and we know how these awards love to copy themselves.

    I’ll call it horrible luck

    FYC

    Taron Egerton = Rocketman
    Joaquin Phoenix = Joker

Dame Maggie Smith = Downton Abbey

He needs to stop relying on big female stars, then he would have a shot. They always suck all the media buzz to themselves. We all know Oscars don’t give both lead acting awards to the same movie.

But I don’t think he earned an Oscar yet, so he should be happy with his nominations.

He probably thought that he would win Best Actor regardless because Director was locked for Cuarón and his multiple nominations would give him the edge in the category he could win(Actor). He really wanted the Directing nom. When he didn’t win the Globe and was snubbed for Directing on the Oscars, his plan backfired.

Lol, he’s a pretty bad actor, which means he’ll get his Oscar due eventually. In the meantime, I’m happy as a clam he keeps losing.

Because like someone said, his big female co-stars have overshadowed him. Jennifer Lawrence won the Oscar. Amy and Jen again triumphed at the GG. Lady Gaga won for song everywhere, not to mention a tie at the CC. And let’s not forget, they were the front-runners at some point, even so or more than Bradley.

Almost every best actor win this decade is a one-man show. Though I kinda agree that he did deserve to win this year and it’s a shame he did almost everything in that movie and the only award ASIB received everywhere is a song written by Lady Gaga, not even him.

But, maybe that’s karma for that monstrosity of a nomination for American Sniper. He stole it in favor of Jake Gyllenhaal’s rightful spot in Night Crawler, and dare I say Jake’s performance was the best that year. Also Steve Carrell ugghhhh! The Academy could have had the perfect reasonable line-up if they had copied BAFTA, but nope…

    Darlings…

Silver Linings Playbook: he was great, but the competition was extremely tough.

American Hustle: he was good, but Leto had the momentum and the LGBTQ character.

American Sniper: He was lucky to be nominated.

A Star Is Born: the Academy just followed the trend and awarded Animatronic even though Bradley deserved to win by a landslide. He was robbed by a cartoon.

I was your Prime Minister once.

His only reasonable nominations are those for Silver Linings Playbook and A Star Is Born. He gave a weak performance in American Sniper and he was very awful in American Hustle. Co-star Jeremy Renner was even better than him on the latter.
