I just think that others was better like Hawkins, Robbie, and Ronan. Plus her sweeping the season was just 😬
Also that nominees were stacked AF. I would’ve loved to put Chastain, Lawrence, Stewart in.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantMay 6, 2019 at 7:45 am #1202882411
1. The film is extremely divisive. Many people have issues with the way racism was portrayed onscreen.
2. In a lot of people’s minds, McDormand won Oscar #2 over more deserving performances, such as Saiorse Ronan’s in Lady Bird and Sally Hawkins’ in The Shape of Water.May 6, 2019 at 7:48 am #1202882428
I don’t hate the win, but I would have voted for Robbie. Her role had the highest degree of difficulty and she killed it.
I’ve heard many actors say that one of the easiest things to play is anger. And McDormand basically gave us two hours of anger–she let us see the humanity under it, which is why I don’t hate the win–but there’s more rage than range there.May 6, 2019 at 10:03 am #1202882562
Once I rewatched 3 Billboards on a plane, I took back what I said. She truly deserved her Oscar.
Amy Adams should have started in I,Taynya.May 6, 2019 at 10:49 am #1202882619
It’s a perfect role for her true but she gives it so much strength and power as well as vulnerability. Even with the competition their decision to give her a second win was justified as not all second wins can take place in weak years like 1984 where Sally Field won(although she wasn’t that deserving IMO).May 6, 2019 at 11:25 am #1202882688This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.May 6, 2019 at 12:51 pm #1202882852
One of the most deserving wins of the last years. Stunning performance. Those who think Ronan was better… need some glasses.
This year I stan: Taron Egerton for Rocketman / Brad Pitt, Margaret Qualley and Dakota Fanning for OUATIH (so far)May 6, 2019 at 1:26 pm #1202882941
Ronan was my choice. McDormand’s win doesn’t bother me as much as it did at the time, but it’s a very similar performance to her superior Emmy winning performance in Olive Kitteridge. And this Chloe Zhao movie looks VERY SIMILAR too. Sis has THE RANGE, so this isn’t a slam.May 6, 2019 at 1:57 pm #1202883012
I think overall people who hate her win think that the performance was very one-note, in a movie that offended a lot of people. Especially since there were other “deserving” nominees who had never won before. Personally my favorite by far was Sally Hawkins.May 6, 2019 at 3:50 pm #1202883141
It really stems from the fact that the other nominees were better that year.
I'm not perfect, but I keep trying.May 6, 2019 at 4:12 pm #1202883147
Amazing win. Beautiful performance.May 6, 2019 at 4:47 pm #1202883169
Her performance was very one-note. I wouldn’t have nominated her but I am biased because I hated the entire film. I found it to be a tacky mess. Rockwell should give his Oscar back too!May 6, 2019 at 5:00 pm #1202883176
I thought the film was wildly entertaining- I would have liked to see Martin McDonagh nominated for directing. I guess we’ll see how the win ages with a few more years.
