    there was a scandal?

I don’t really remember people realistically thinking Robbie would be winning anything

The Tonya Harding scandaL which is the subject of the film was what I was referring to not any new scandal that coincided with the release of the film.

Robbie obviously was never winning. Her film underperformed in nominations and she was up against the leads of 4 Best Picture nominees, all of whom had been nominated by the Oscars before. She was in 4th at best.

Before the Globes there was some speculation on here that the Globes could catapult her into a good position in the race.

There was some show (either Globes or SAG) where the camera caught Alison Janney condoling Robbie during the standing ovation for whoever the winner was. It looked like they were thinking “well there goes any Oscar chance (for Robie.)”

One of the strongest Best Actress lineups ever. You truly have a total win-worthy performance from every nominee. I understand the backlash against McDormand’s win (which really exists on the internet because everyone else was absolutely there for her that season) but I think she’s fantastic in 3B and very much worthy of her win. It’s miles away from Marge. Also, I know the whole angry woman thing comes from her off-screen persona, but she’s really only played angry in a major way in Olive Kitteridge? And in Good People on Broadway but only theatre-goers would have seen that.

I believe Allison Janney did that in every award show during the season

Her win doesn’t bother me at all.If it was up to me, I would have picked Margot Robbie or Jennifer Lawrence before her but still, she gave a great performance.

If that year when Frances McDormand was nominated for Best Actress was a weaker one, I guess there would be no to a little backlash of her win. Unfortunately, she was in competition with four other strong and powerful performances, namely: Margot Robbie in I, TonyaSally Hawkins in The Shape of WaterSaoirse Ronan in Lady Bird, and Meryl Streep in The Post. Any of them winning is worthy of the recognition from the Academy but if I were to choose, I would surely pick McDormand as the winner. Despite criticisms for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri about its take on racism and the film’s underdeveloped character arcs, McDormand’s performance is still an unstoppable force of nature. The category she was nominated was for Best Actress in a Leading Role and it should be based on how the actress gives life to the character for the benefit of the picture and not the character itself.

People “hating” her Oscar win is just something you made up in your head after probably reading two negative comments about it. She deserved to win that year. That is all.
