Why?
Is it too late? I don’t think so.
Supporting is a mess, and he would win there, unless Judas really premieres in time AND Kaluuya goes supporting. It would also clear the path for Boseman in Lead. We’ve seen actors whose caracters are borderline lead [but die a little early in the movie] campaign – and win – as supporting (Waltz, Rachel Weiz…).
That would make three Netflix actors frontrunners in their respective categories (Boseman, Davis, and Lindo).
ReplyNovember 22, 2020 at 5:49 am #1203854137I think Netflix is a bit too busy with the, what, half a dozen Supporting Actors they have for Chicago 7? They have a lot more people from one movie(!) to choose from that they don’t need to worry about anyone else. And two of those actors (Baron Cohen and Rylance) are pretty high up in the average predictions. I’m not discrediting Lindo’s performance at all, but Netflix knows they can and probably will win Best Supporting Actor with Chicago 7 and have a better shot at Best Actor with Boseman or maybe Oldman.

Chicago 7 has too many actors, D5B would be just him. And performance-wise, Lindo would destroy any of those Chicago actors.

November 22, 2020 at 6:52 am #1203854186Wouldn’t be opposed to this if it means he wins.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 22, 2020 at 8:45 am #1203854302He was lead and should remain so. He was incredible, but the industry has decided to build a posthumous hype for Boseman…leaving Lindo in the dust

November 22, 2020 at 9:30 am #1203854369I think Netflix should be getting ready for Chicago 7 to disappear once the rest of the films premiere. I don’t see that film holding up. Of course we need to wait for precursors, but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Chicago 7 ends up with just Picture and Screenplay nominations. The days of this film taking over the supporting actor category are over and it’ll hardly get any below the line support.
Netflix should push Lindo in supporting and I think he could win there. And he probably should win too. He was great and has an extensive career working with everybody in the business. For starters, he could easily win SAG once all his movie and TV costars see his name there.
I know there are other contenders and we should wait, but this is a campaign that could run itself all the way up to the Oscar stage. It doesn’t look that hard.
This is VERY J.K Simmons to me. I know Whiplash was much more loved by the Academy than 5 Bloods will ever be, but Simmons would’ve won even if he was the film’s only nomination. It’s basically the same situation.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 22, 2020 at 10:10 am #1203854445Film Twitter will cry category fraud. But Lindo deserved to be in Supporting since day one. Netflix could’ve easily sold D5B as an ensemble. 🙄

Da 5 Bloods is an ensemble, in my book.
Everyone including Lindo is supporting–he’s just the most prominent supporting character in the film.November 22, 2020 at 9:00 pm #1203856369Because everyone says he’s a lead, and leads should be campaigned as leads.
