Myth busting – no one, not Chastian, not Lawrence, not Blanchett, etc would ever win, let alone easily, for that blank slate “character” Maya in ZDT. Unlikable, unrelatable, personality free, basically just a plot-forwarder, that “character” is everything people don’t vote for when they have 4 more likable, more relatable options with more personality. That role was a dead end, not a winner material. Coattaled Picture and that’s about it. She didn’t stand a chance with awards that didn’t split Comedy and Drama.

The rest of her career after ZDT simply didn’t warrant a nomination. Sorry A Most Violent Year fans but no one cared about that movie. It was little seen. And as others pointed out, she had to campaign for Interstellar which was a crap role, upstaged by freakin Renesmee playing the younger version (not that she was Oscar worthy either). EUREKA! lol

I think that Film Twitter, or whatever you call small but loud group of fans that obsesses about awards, still thinks it’s 2012 when media (wrongly) though she was going to be the next Streep overnight. Every year there’s an actress that is built up to be that only to come crashing down cause there’s no way but down from such nonsense hype. Chastain is just one in a long line of Next Streeps that didn’t pan out (remember Nanny?).

Also, she tried to be an activist but didn’t have the balls for controversy. Not everyone is Angelina Jolie even though quite a few tried (and failed) to be like her.

Finally, the smell of desperation turns off everyone and she always comes off desperate. From her 2012 whining about paying her dues to desperate awards baits such as Tammy Faye and Bergman remake that predictably flopped with audience, which in turn hurts her chances, to her thanking every Palookaville critics group that picked her on Twitter, she’s a chain reaction of desperation.

She’s a nice person but I have a feeling she’s trying to be something she isn’t and thinks she deserves more than she got and the rest of the world including the industry simply don’t feel that way.

She’s a solid actress but she did nothing Oscar whorthy between A Most Violent Year and Tammy Fay.

I bet she will be snubbed again this year.

Although having turned in a consistent amount of acclaimed (and great) performances since her nomination for Zero Dark Thirty, Jessica Chastain has had two problems. She’s delivered critically lauded (and nominated) work in films that are simply too small a contender for her to get into a competitive Oscar field (like in A Most Violent Year) and the films she has been in that have been widely seen Oscar contenders are those where she doesn’t really have a role that would garner any actor standout attention (like in Interstellar, The Martian). The closest she’s come to getting a nomination since 2012 was for Molly’s Game but just like a SAG and Golden Globe nominated Judi Dench that year she was competing in an ultra competitive field with Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand and Saoirse Ronan in top tier Best Picture contenders, Margot Robbie playing Tonya Harding and Meryl Streep with one of her most acclaimed performances in years.

She could face a similar problem this year with The Eyes of Tammy Faye and miss again if the film ends up just being too small and there are too many contenders in bigger Best Picture contenders in her way.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

Chastain has a very neutral brand compared to a lot of other leading actresses. I can’t think of a role that I would immediately think that she has to be the first choice for.

Rosamund Pike probably had this problem before Gone Girl. Actually if the timing had been better, I could’ve seen Chastain in that role. She needs something edgy and interesting. She seems very strategic about the roles she picks, but she could use a hands-on director that has a vision for her.

I almost forgot Emma was in The Help!

Emma Stone- The Help, The Favourite, La La Land, Birdman.

Jessica Chastain- The Help, The Tree of Life, ZDT, The Martian

Amy Adams- The Fighter, American Hustle, Her, Arrival, VICE.

It’s wild how, along with Amy Adams, they are the only two actresses who starred in more than 3 best picture nominees in the past decade. That just proves how she was an in-demand prestige actress. But i guess her later roles who are bombs hurt her quality as a star.

Saoirse Ronan was in The Grand Budapest Hotel,Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women

Look at how uncomfortable Jessica is, sitting there with the person who is taking her Oscar nomination this year.

Bad timing. From starting out of the gate with “next Streep” comparisons and a slew of performances that could have been nod-worthy in separate years (“Take Shelter,” “Coriolanus,” “The Help,” “The Tree of Life,” etc.) to being edged out by internal competition (“The Help”) and mired by outside controversy (“Zero Dark Thirty”). Late release dates for both “A Most Violent Year” and “Molly’s Game” served her no good use. A shift to genre films followed, a critically raved performance in HBO’s “Scenes From a Marriage” (fingers crossed for her upcoming Emmy nomination!), and a personal pet project (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”) that looked great for a nomination upon its September release, but is currently fighting to stay in the conversation in a highly competitive lead actress field. The stars just haven’t aligned in every necessary way for Jessica Chastain’s Oscar chances after her big breakthrough. Sad but completely understandable.

I think some of the problems with Jessica is that she hasn’t done many award worthy performances post-Molly’s Game and when she is nominated for awards (GGs, Oscars, etc), there’s been better performances and overall tougher competition.

I think it’s even more interesting/unusual that Jesse Plemons has also been in four Best Picture nominees in the last decade and is about to be in a fifth but to date, unlike any of these actresses, has never been nominated for an Oscar.
