Compared to all the other Oscar nominees in these categories it seems like such a joke (no pun intended). I wonder if it was just nominated in these categories so that the film could get as many noms as possible? I don’t know, the makeup and hair could have been done by anyone and the only real costume was his red suit. Great film but to me this was one of the worst nominees in recent memory.
ReplyApril 24, 2020 at 1:23 pm #1203445804Because it was deserving.
Although to be fair, Dolemite is my Name deserved the costume design nomination more

April 24, 2020 at 1:38 pm #1203445826@Kelvin I’d say Joker deserved all other nominations and especially deserved the win for Joaquin Phoenix. I just don’t understand why it was nominated for makeup & hair and costume design. It was just so simple to me. The only real costume he wore was the red suit which to me was nothing special and the makeup and hair literally could have been done by the actor himself. It’s really the makeup & hair that bothers me.

Make up and hairstyling, for exemple, is a nomination thats literally impossible to defend.

People didn’t have time to watch more movies, so they voted for a big name in a big Best Picture player. I don’t think it gets Costume Design nomination in the normal year.

You know nothing if you think that a box office succes is gonna influenced the Academy, they gonna nominated what they like box office succes or not
It was not a joke, it deserved that nomination, the costume was iconic, the hate for this movie is getting anoying
Because the voters were so in love with the character that they not only voted for a terrible acting winner but also voted for its image and stylism, leading to more undeserved nominations. If we are discussing the rest, I don’t really have a problem with the score and cinematography nominations even though it’s not in my personal top 5.
I don´t think you know more about acting than Cate Blanchet and Kathy Bates.
