After, Spike Lee said he would boycott the Oscars after the shutout of any nominations for non-Caucasian actors. Jada Pinkett Smith said she would also protest for the same reason. Is it possible, host Chris Rock will follow and decide to step down from his hosting duties?January 18, 2016 at 9:00 pm #211455
God no, he’ll have a field day.January 18, 2016 at 9:09 pm #211456
No way! He needs to stay and give these people the shit they deserve and in a way they won’t laugh about. The reactions from the losers in the crowd will be great to watch.January 18, 2016 at 10:08 pm #211457This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.January 18, 2016 at 11:51 pm #211458
Exactly. I feel somehow bad for those who are nominated, but I also feel like future nominations of movies starring lesbians or POC as main characters could been seen as “white guilt” and not because they deserve it.
There is a lot to talk about, but a boycott is the wrong signal.

I’m not racist. But I will be soon, if these threads continue to pop up.January 19, 2016 at 12:33 am #211460
Jesus. Isn’t expecting recognition to be given to you because of your race racism? Sounds like Al Sharpton, Jada Smith, and Spike Lee are the ones with a race problem. They are all extremely wealthy individuals yet are somehow “victims” to the white oppressor. Pathetic. The Oscars have snubbed plenty of white people too don’t worry. Maybe these babies should act better and be in better movies.January 19, 2016 at 2:54 am #211461
My point was that of others refuse to present or follow Spike Lee and decide not to show up. Would Chris Rock drop out of hosting?January 19, 2016 at 2:56 am #211462

No. They picked the perfect person to host the show. He’s going to have a field day and ruffle some feathers. He shouldn’t drop out, and he also should go as hard as he can. It’s going to be a moment.January 19, 2016 at 3:27 am #211463This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.January 19, 2016 at 4:51 am #211464
Absolutely not. He’s going to go all in on thr Academy in his monologue like he should. And frankly, he needs the money too.January 19, 2016 at 6:09 am #211465
If he starts attacking the actors because they are nominated, it would be a disaster. Not only that it is not their fault, but the entire lineup is made of either truly deserving or first-time nominees. Whom is he going to attack? I simply see no point in it and it would be idiotic blaming the 20 nominees for the issues of entire industry. It wouldn’t even be remotely funny.January 19, 2016 at 6:23 am #211466
I don’t think Chris Rock should go after the nominated actors, nor would he. There’s a difference between criticizing the Oscars for being white and denigrating the specific actors and filmmakers who were nominated. I think most of the nominees this year did good work, but an industry that can result in an all-white slate of nominees two years in a row deserves to be skewered. People like me who criticize the acacdemy for #OscarsSoWhite aren’t saying, “Screw Rachel McAdams!” or anything like that. Our ire is directed at the institutions, which are the problem, and that’s the ideal target for Chris Rock to take aim at.January 19, 2016 at 6:30 am #211467
What ”two years in a row”? Selma was a Best Picture nominee last year.
