After seeing Creed this afternoon I put it into my BP lineup. I also put Stallone in. Creed has the underdog and rooting factor to it. It’s a film that the academy will like and in my opinion I think it’s right up there with Rocky honestly but that’s just my opinionNovember 28, 2015 at 8:05 pm #189391
^I would go so far as to say it’s even better than ‘Rocky’, IMO. But as far as Oscar is concerned, I think there’s a chance that it’s only nom is Stallone. Outside of that, I think it has a shot at BP, sound editing/mixing, editing, and adapted screenplay. Less likely (though deserved)- lead actor for Michael B. Jordan, director for Ryan Coogler, original score, cinematography.November 29, 2015 at 12:23 pm #189392This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 29, 2015 at 12:28 pm #189393
Stallone was really amazing, but Michael B Jordan!!!! Oh my goodness! He is a revelation. Give him his Oscar nomination. WOW. He did what Gyllenhaal should have done, truly a masterful performance.
I would love for Jordan to get a nomination, and for Coogler to receive some buzz as well. That single take fight is one for the boxing movie time capsule. I’m hoping that both of them, along with Stallone and the film itself get some surprise mentions this season that hopefully culminates in some Oscar recognition.

Creed is very well positioned for both nominations and wins. A majority of academy members are older white males; a boxing film will appeal to them very much. (It helps that the film is excellent).
I’m expecting this film to get 8 nominations and 1 or 2 wins. Sylvester Stallone could very well WIN Best Supporting Actor – they love older males in the Supporting Actor category. I LOVE his performance; it’s the best of his career. While there are performances I am rooting for more that I don’t think will make the final five (Paul Dano, Jacob Tremblay (both Dano and Tremblay are really leads), Jeff Daniels, Mark Ruffalo (I think he will get a nomination), Emory Cohen (my actual pick and a longshot for a nomination) – if the nominees are the five I think it will be as of now (Hardy, Keaton, Ruffalo, Rylance, Stallone) I think Stallone will win the Oscar.
I personally believe it’s the best edited film I have seen this year. I disliked MMFR intensely. The most editing doesn’t translate to the Oscar win. It almost always (except for last year) goes to a BP nominee and I don’t believe MMFR will get one. Last year’s contest was interesting – Boyhood vs. Whiplash. I was rooting for a tie in the category, both were edited briliantly. They went with the flashier editing.
I am on the cusp about Ryan Coogler getting a Best Director nomination. The Director’s branch is notorious for nominating offbeat choices that appeal to them specifically. Nominating a young black male filmmaker would be great. I am waiting to see what the reception really is for Russell’s Joy (and also to see it for myself).
I do wish (and have asked Tom and Daniel) that Creed would be put into more categories in the predictions center. If you agree with this, please write to them and see if we can get some more categories for Creed. I’m definitely predicting it for Film Editing and Cinematography (it’s already in the predictions center for Picture, Actor, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, but not for it’s screenplay – I want it to be eligible for Original Screenplay but others are telling me it’s going to be eligible for Adapted Screenplay, which I think is stupid (the reason is that it is based on characters (two) from previous films).November 29, 2015 at 2:38 pm #189395
went to see the film yesterday and loved it! I’m hoping that the film racks up several Oscar nominations especially for Directing, Picture and Supporting Actor.November 29, 2015 at 2:49 pm #189396
I’m very afraid of Mr. Stallone.November 29, 2015 at 4:36 pm #189397
I was more than doubtful going in. Even with the love from critics which I thought would be ,ore nostalgia than anything else. I am more than happy to say how wrong I was. This was a great surprise. I didn’t think Stalone had one last decent performance in him let alone one last great knockout performance. This and the original are his legacy. He will get nominated and a win in Supporting Actor would be a great way to close out one of films most iconic characters. Michael B. Jordan has put Hollywood on notice: He has arrived. But Stalonebreaks hearts and should win awards for this.November 29, 2015 at 5:53 pm #189398
Excited to see this being as well (better?) received than I hoped. Will try to catch it tomorrow.
Caught it a few days ago and it was fantastic. One of the best films I’ve seen this year. Everything people are saying is true. Should be a contender for sure. Go see it if you haven’t.November 29, 2015 at 8:37 pm #189400This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 30, 2015 at 12:22 am #189401This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 30, 2015 at 10:00 am #189402
Hooray – we can finally predict Creed in more prediction centers in all categories!
I have moved Ryan Coogler up in to the Best Director category; I really think he will get nominated.
The only nomination that I think it will not get that it should is screenplay because it is ridiculously going to be deemed an “adaped” screenplay rahter than an original – if it were eligible in the original screenplay category, it would get one of the five slots (it’s the only category that feels thin to me). Adapted Screenplay has at least five films that I think are def. going to get nominated already and don’t see the writers branch including Creed in that category.
I am now predicting Creed in 9 categories, but that includes a Best Original Song nomination. BP, Director, Supporting Actor, Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Orginal Song, Sound Mixing, and Sound Editing.
And Sylvester Stallone is going to win. Who would have thought he was capable of an UNDERSTATED beautiful performance? I give credit to Ryan Coogler, for his direction and co-writing of the film. All of the details are right. It’s really a terrific movie!January 5, 2016 at 11:24 pm #189403
