    Hi,

I know saying this because I’m a Disney fanatic, but I’ve been hearing that Mary Poppins Returns has potential to receive an not only for Best Song and possibly Best Actress, but also Best Picture based on what the voters say, even though it hasn’t been released until next month. So my question is and please be honest, does Mary Poppins Returns has a chance to win an Oscar for Best Picture? And even though you guys are going to be very doubtful, I say we wait until it release in theaters first, then will decide if it has a chance to win an Oscar for Best Picture.

Right now, I can see Mary Poppins Returns being nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Sound Mixing.

But if it does good enough at the other major awards, I can also see it slipping into Best Picture and Best Actress.

That being said, I don’t see it winning Best Picture.

AMPAS is too pretentious for that.

I currently only have this film doing just as well as Beauty & the Beast did last year by receiving only two Oscar nominations for Production Design, Costume Design, and nothing else.

I know I’ve already mentioned that a few other places, but the industry doesn’t appear to be crazy about nostalgia as much as people would like. They seem to be more about moving forward as opposed to looking back.

Its best chances of a nomination are probably production design, costume design, original song, and visual effects. Maybe Emily Blunt in Best Actress, too, depending on how well she does in the precursors.

I don’t think so. It may get nominated, but I don’t see it winning.

I think it may also be vulnerable for a Best Original Song nomination. Marc Shaiman hasn’t been recognized by the Academy since 2000. He and Scott Wittman both couldn’t get in for any of the two new songs they wrote for the 2007 Hairspray film.

The point I’m trying to make is that Academy members may probably feel “been there, done that” with the property. We especially saw how dismissive the Emmys were to both revivals of Will & Grace and Twin Peaks this past year.

this one really depends on the reviews, I have it in at 8th cuz I have to fill out the list and there are certain frontrunners that I just don’t see getting in

Mary Poppins will do better because it has people like Blunt and Streep involved. It’s more baity and more nostalgic to the older people.

First of all, Emily Blunt has not only never been recognized by the Academy, but she’s never even been in a Best Picture nominee. Second of all, how in the world is Mary Poppins baity? Sure, the original film was nominated for Best Picture back in 1964, but that was an entirely different time. Third of all, director Rob Marshall hasn’t had a big Oscar player since Chicago. While every film he had made since then (with the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) received multiple Oscar nominations, they haven’t been a factor in the Best Picture race.

There’s already a thread about this film.
