Martin Scorsese with his latest masterwork The Irishman got his Ninth Oscar nomination in Directing, thus making him the most nominated living filmmaker in the category and second of all time behind only William Wyler who holds the record of 12 Directing nominations.

So with that in mind, do you think Scorsese will be able in the future to equal (or even beat) Wyler’s record of 12 Directing nominations???

Vote in the poll and then leave a comment.

If his good health continues at his advanced age I don’t see why not. Wyler was only 63 when he managed his 12th nod, Scorsese was 77 for his 9th. Time is slipping, but hell Clint Eastwood is 12 years older and still making films so who knows.

Side note: I’m still shaking my head over the over performance of “The Irishman” in nominations. The only one it got that I thought it truly, truly deserved was Joe Pesci’s.

At his age, he’s obviously running out of time, but if he remains in good health and keeps working as much as he can, it’s certainly possible. I know I’m rooting for him 100%!!

I deeply disagree, it should have got more.
DeNiro should have got nominated in Lead for his performance over Jonathan Pryce.

Only difference is that Eastwood films quickly , while Scorsese takes two to three years between films.

Equals, but doesn’t exceed, 12 nominations. And he wins again. A standing ovation during another winner’s acceptance speech is telling. It’ll happen when the timing is right, like maybe for his last film or something.

He should have easily been nominated in Directing for Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy.
