After all it might join American Hustle, The Turning Point and La Couleur Pourpre. I honestly don’t mind as the competition is too strong. Parasite and Once … Hollywood will definitely block it in many categories.

I keep forgetting that The Irishman could win for Film Editing this year. I wish there was more editing – the film would be better imo if an hour of it were edited out – its too long and certain scenes dragged for me. Thelma Schoonmaker is practically the only film editor alive that has name recognition. But Ford v Ferrari and Parasite have great editing – the car races are exciting and the great reckless driving scene by the wife, in fact the whole film is wonderfully edited; and Parasite’s rain storm sequence and the fight in the hidden cellar were brilliantly edited. I think one of these three films will win the Oscar.

Here’s my opinion on likelihood of winning:
    1. Editing
    2. Adapted Screenplay
    3. Director
    4. Picture
    5. Supporting Actor
    6. Visual Effects
    7. Supporting Actor
    8. Cinematography
    9. Production Design
    10. Costume Design

Darling, Thatcher sees it but Understated could actually upset.

As a famous singer said, "ain't nobody gonna Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher!"

I wouldn’t say a shutout is a guarantee, not at all, but unless the guilds shock us, I totally see a repeat of Gangs of New York happening.

Throw out Director, Supporting Actor for Pacino, Cinematography, Costume Design and Production Design, none of those are happening period.

Picture is very unlikely. If it loses PGA on Saturday, which it will, it’s over for that. I also don’t see Supporting Actor for Joe Pesci happening. He’s a dark horse but Brad Pitt’s chances are much higher. As for Visual Effects, it’s possible, but I’m not counting on it.

Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing are the two categories that are the most likely out of the 10. And while the chance is there, I don’t see Film Editing happening either. The lack of sound nominations hurts The Irishman, as well as Jojo Rabbit and Parasite. The last time a movie won Film Editing without sound nominations was Scorsese/Schoomaker’s own The Departed, but that was the frontrunner to win Best Picture, which it did. The Irishman is not a frontrunner in the slightest. If there’s a movie winning Film Editing this year without sound nominations, it’s gonna be Parasite.

Adapted Screenplay is honestly the only category I can see a win happening for. I think Little Women’s chances are higher, but I would not be surprised if the WGA and BAFTA give it to Steven Zaillian, as well as an inevitable Oscar as well.

So overall, yeah, I’m leaning towards a Gangs of New York repeat.

It has zero chance in supporting actor. A lot of people like Pacino’s performance, and a lot prefer Pesci’s. Unless they make a group chat and coordinate all of their votes it’s not gonna happen lol.
