Watched “The Lighthouse” last night and was absolutely blown away by his performance. Why in the (expletive) wasn’t he nominated for an Academy Award? https://xender.vip/ It looks like the film was nominated for best cinematography, but can anyone explain this obvious snub (in my opinion)? Is there a tendency not to nominate horror movies in general? Is there some kind of history between the Academy and Dafoe I’m unaware of?November 1, 2020 at 11:51 pm #1203815692
There’s just a horror bias. They don’t like nominating horror performances.November 2, 2020 at 1:06 am #1203815746
The Academy has nominated Dafoe multiple times before, so yeah, I think it was just horror bias (+ fatigue from previous nomination)November 2, 2020 at 1:12 am #1203815752
He gave one of the greatest performances in cinema history.November 2, 2020 at 4:32 am #1203815892This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.November 2, 2020 at 11:50 am #1203816702
The Lighthouse is a niche film that you either love or hate. The story probably didn’t appeal to most voters.
Dafoe & Pattinson should’ve been nominated.
👑Cicely Tyson (1924-2021)

Dafoe was amazing and better than all of the other supporting contenders, but he should’ve been placed in lead.
Pattinson was also fantastic, but undeniably overshadowed by Dafoe.November 2, 2020 at 1:45 pm #1203816834
Pure genre bias. He should have gotten the win.
Best Picture: C'mon C'mon
Director: Jane Campion
Actor: Joaquin Phoenix (C'mon C'mon), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick... Boom!)
Supporting Actress: Gaby Hoffman (C'mon C'mon), Ann Dowd (Mass), Ruth Negga (Passing)
Supporting Actor: Jason Isaacs (Mass), Robin de Jesús (Tick, Tick... Boom!)November 2, 2020 at 2:01 pm #1203816851
Dafoe (and Song Kang-Ho from Parasite) were WAY better than all of their competition that year.
I can’t speak for Dafoe because I haven’t seen the movie but the guy from Parasite was average, I didn’t see anything special in that performance.November 2, 2020 at 2:44 pm #1203816896
One of the best performances I’ve ever seen. It’s their loss.November 3, 2020 at 12:41 am #1203817405
Yes, he was pretty brilliant in this film! It’s only because of the genre he was never in danger of actually awards recognition.March 5, 2022 at 2:05 am #1204832154
This is one of the best films I’ve seen lately. One that gives you tingles. Defoe and Pattinson both should have been nominated along with the screenplay and directing, and it should have won cinematography over 1917 although a challenge one year after Roma.
Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing
Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.March 10, 2022 at 6:27 am #1204839347
