No. This isn’t a joke, nor is it a reference to the upcoming adaptation of Wicked.
This is really happening.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2021 at 11:16 am #1204035650Will Hollywood ever learn that the movies that should be remade (or rebooted) are the ones that didn’t even work the first time around that way they would have no where to go but up? Timeless classics like Beauty & the Beast, The Lion King, West Side Story, and The Wizard of Oz should be left alone.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2021 at 11:17 am #1204035655Ok so if I recall correctly (it’s been awhile) the book didnt have the songs, and had a few things the og movie doesnt:
1)Dorothy is forced to become the witch’s personal slave (Could be interesting)
2)She had to go find Glinda again
3)Lion kills a giant spider who is terrorizing the animals in a forest
4)silver shoes (which I assume are going to be ruby anways)
5)The Winged Monkey was more helpful in the end for DorothySo just looking at that and assuming the songs won’t be used, we could potentially see an entirely different movie from what people are expecting.
SAYING THAT: if they try to do the original all over again without change I’m totally against that

The Marvelous Land of Oz is easily the best of the bunch yet hasn’t been touched.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2021 at 1:11 pm #1204035841I mean as long as it’s not a direct remake of the 1939 classic and a more faithful retelling of the book series it should be OK.
Tim Burton would’ve been the perfect director for this before his movies started to suck.

👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)February 10, 2021 at 1:25 pm #1204035853From my childhood memories, the witch dies in the book barely more than half way through, although I may be misremembering or exaggerating. However, I’m not sure if there’s much interesting material after that to justify a straight retelling. No one is asking for this.

money honey. The sweet taste of money.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2021 at 1:34 pm #1204035871Not the biggest fan of the OG movie, but yeah, this is unnecessary. Thank you, late capitalism!
Wish they would adapt the Wicked Years for film/television already, sans music this time 😒.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 10, 2021 at 1:59 pm #1204035901Why would anybody touch this? The people who would want to see an Oz-related movie are the same people who hold up the original as sacred

I don’t care how wonderful the remake might end up being, it will never have the heart of the 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz. It truly is timeless.

As Matt Neglia said on Next Best Picture’s podcast review of the recent Rebecca reboot, he thinks any movie that won the Oscar for Best Picture should never be remade (or rebooted).
