Isn’t that a bit weird that a movie like that will have a Pg 13 rating it will have the same rating as something like coda , JoJo rabbit and the father

So I think she will treat the subject matters in a subtle way and tone down the edgier moments

Foy appears in Sarah Pollen’s film adaptation of Miriam Toews’ 2018 novel Women Talking with Jessie Buckley, Frances McDormand, Rooney Mara and Ben Whishaw, the latter playing one of the few blokes in it.

She says she’s proud of of the film set in a Mennonite religious community. “I play a viscerally angry woman which was great. She’s pretty much hell hath no fury like a woman, annoyed.”

^ that kind of makes me assume she’s playing Salome, since she’s much fierier than Ona, or any other character for that matter. If true, I’m excited to see what she does with the part as I was expecting Buckley in that role since she’s who I saw most clearly fitting into that role – also still hoping that Mara is cast as Ona as I think she’d be perfect.

This! I wasn’t really reading the book thinking about who could play these characters but I really just felt like Mara would fit that role like a glove (same with Whishaw). There’s just a type of sombreness that Mara executes perfectly in her acting style that would really work with Ona’s story.

100 percent. Also, logistically, I feel like since she’s the biggest “star” whose been cast that Ona is the only role she’d be playing, as I can’t imagine her being one of the other young women who don’t have as much of an arc nor the roles of the older women who would obviously be inappropriate casting.

Looks like Mara is probably playing Ona (the character is pregnant throughout the book)…

Yeah, there’s no doubt Mara is Ona. Claire Foy said an interview she’s playing a ‘hell hath no fury/ viscerally angry woman’ so the only logical conclusion is Salome.

I think McDormand might be Agata but curious about Buckley. I have her as Mariche right now, not sure though. If Polley decides to use flashbacks I could also see her as August’s mother, Monica. I’ve heard some rumors her role is kind of small.

I believe Buckley is Monica as well. She’ll be important to flesh out August’s character and his relationship with Ona. I’m curious to see how Polley incorporates it into the film.

Curious as to why Claire and Rooney are both at 100/1 odds still. Based on the people that read the novel, why do you see Buckley above the other girls in supporting?

Jessie Buckley shot up early in polling because she’s kind of an “it girl” in the arthouse scene right now, and will probably coast there in the top 5 until more information is officially released regarding the casting of Women Talking.

Don’t read too much into it. Take advantage of those 100/1 Claire Foy odds for the time being.
