What are the 5 worst films you’ve seen this decade? Give reasons why if you want.

Just two rules for this thread…

Don’t name anything from this year (we don’t need the recency bias or people trying to influence the conversations about the current races – at least in this thread).

Don’t name more than 5 films.

BTW, we will have our Gold Derby Film Decade Awards starting the day after the Oscars next February.

I’ll jump in first and give you mine (no bad films that are simply bad; my list is of actual awards contenders that were massive disappointments for me).

    1. The Florida Project

    2. Anomalisa

    3. The Tourist

    4. Beasts of the Southern Wild

    5. Foxcatcher

Holy molly, that is a really polarizing list if you ask me

Wait, are we doing films that were straight up bad or awards vehicles we think are bad compared to the hype? Because it’s hard for me to narrow down the worst films of this decade, but I can certainly name many awards season pushes I wasn’t as keen on

If we are ignoring films that are simply terrible, like Slender Man or Justice League, and just talking about critically acclaimed films we found terrible, here are my Top 5 critically acclaimed films from the decade I hated/did not like.

    1. Under the Skin: dreadfully boring and pretentious, I really wanted to shut this film off but plowed through. Didn’t care about anything that was happening on screen.

    2. Halloween: what a terrible new version of the franchise, I was shocked that this film got such great reviews. It is mean spirited, and even feels sexist in the way its presents its kills. Just a dreadfully unpleasant continuation of the Halloween franchise.

    3. Pacific Rim: I love Del Toro, I thought this was a big dumb boring monster movie with no heart. I love a good action movie, but I need some characters I actually find interesting and care about, and a compelling story, and this lack both for me.

    4. Swiss Army Man: this was nonsense. Creative nonsense, but still unfunny and meandering. Very disappointed by this film.

    5. First Reformed: didn’t hate it, but didn’t like it either. A rather boring and pretentious film that was on the nose with its messaging. Did have some great performances though. It is basically a remake of Bergman’s Winter Light, which I also find boring. I am not a religious person so maybe these crisis of faith films just don’t connect with me.

gach I don’t know where to begin.
    not in any order:

    TWIXT
I wanted to like this because it’s Coppola but it’s actually unbearable.

    JACK AND JILL
A steaming pile of lowbrow crass.

    GRAVITY
    Please, just..float away.

    A SEPARATION
A vile, sadistic mess with an 11yr old girl who looks 40

    The Human Centipede.
    No thanks.

So if we’re going for awards contenders, I’ll pick my least favourite Best Picture nominees.

    1. Bohemian Rhapsody
    2. Extremely Loud and Terribly Close
    3. Hacksaw Ridge
    4. Green Book
    5. Midnight in Paris
    6. Vice
    7. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
    8. The Post
    9. War Horse
    10. Dallas Buyer’s Club

I wouldn’t count these as the worst films of the decade per se but I do not like any of these movies.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Weathering With You, Parasite, The Lighthouse
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe - The Lighthouse
Best Animated Feature: Weathering With You, Promare
Best International Film: Weathering With You, Parasite

Be interested in hearing why The Florida Project didn’t work for you.

It was my favorite film of 2017. I am also a native Floridian who grew up 50 minutes from where it was film, so I have a stronger connection to that film than the average person.

I agree. And not just his. Reading the other lists is making my eyes bleed.

One of my most hated things in life is misbehaving children. And parents that are awful humans. Watching those things for two hours in a movie made me want to run out of the theater.

Just asking because I find divisive awards vehicles a much more interesting topic than straight Razzie-worthy films.

If we’re limiting it to only 5, here goes (not ranked):

    -The Theory of Everything

    -The Revenant

    -Bohemian Rhapsody

    -Joy

    -Darkest Hour

My top 5 worst films of this decade, and I’m going to use films that were truly awful and left me boiling with rage. No wannabe Oscar contenders here:

    1. Dirty Grandpa
    2. Fist Fight
    3. The Brothers Grimsby
    4. The Emoji Movie
    5. Hot Pursuit

Of these films, The Emoji Movie was easily the worst animated film I have ever seen in my life. Not only does it have some of the most annoying characters in the history of animation, but the film is nothing but product placement.

Now, Dirty Grandpa, oh boy, where do I start with that one? That film is not only the worst film of this decade, but IT IS LITERALLY THE WORST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND THAT’s NOT AN EXAGGERATION!! How it failed to win a single Razzie, especially for Robert De Niro and Aubrey Plaza’s performances, I will never understand.

My God, the vulgarity and raunchiness was so disgusting and so copious that I’m amazed I didn’t walk out. Never have I seen such incompetence put on display in a film. Nothing about this story works. NOTHING!!! Pete Hammond wrote the most glorious scathing review for this film, and it is PERFECT!!! Read it for yourself, because he is 100% correct. https://deadline.com/2016/01/dirty-grandpa-review-zac-efron-robert-de-niro-worst-ever-1201688276/

If anyone ever tries to defend this film to me, I have advice for you: don’t even bother, because there is nothing to defend. This film is the equivalent of a wasteland left behind by an atomic bomb. That’s how bad it truly is.
