Tilly fully earned her Oscar nomination for “Bullets Over Broadway.” But winning over Wiest? Nope!

2009. The only worthy nominee that year was Gabourey Sidibe.

Is 1992 among the better years? Haven’t seen any of the nominees apart from Emma Thompson.

1992 Was pretty good. It was a year that there was talk that they wouldn’t be able to find enough nominees but then Love Field and Passion Fish were both rushed into qualifying releases because they saw an opportunity to get nominations. (and both women were nominated but strangely Alfree Woodard got snubbed for Passion Fish in supporting)

So those two are worth checking out? What about Lorenzo’s Oil?

“Lorenzo’s Oil” has a terrific performance from Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte was also very memorable. Touching film. It was certainly better than Sarandon’s work on “The Client” or “Atlantic City”.

2005 is the worst ever. Witherspoon, Dench, Theron, Knightly & someone else trying (badly) to do drag king. Ugh. Such an awful line-up.

She’s Felicity Huffman and she should have won. This was the only year she could have with this performance and it’s a shame she didn’t.

LORENZO’S OIL is absolutely devastating. I actually think that should’ve been Sarandon’s Oscar.

Yes I’d say they are both worth a look. The fifth nominee is Catherine Deneuve in Indochine. I don’t know about that one though. It won Best Foreign Language Oscar but I never really found it that interesting. I’m ok with her nomination though since she was a big part of film history and it was a nice career salute.

    Lawrence, Chastain, Riva, Watts, Wallis

That’s one of the best in recent years. The only bad nominee amongst these is Lawrence. The other 4 would all have made a worthy winner.

Passion Fish is a John Sayles film through-and-through. If you admire strong ensemble-focused work with lots of dialogue done in a way that does not seem too wordy or sounding like something real people wouldn’t say and centering around female characters, then you’ll enjoy Passion Fish immensely. I love the film myself.

    Huffman should’ve won easily.
