The way Call Me By Your Name was dealt by the Academy will remain the most outrageously frustrating thing they’ve done the past few decades at least. I know it won screenplay but it deserved much more honestly. Picture, Actor and Song should have easily gone to Call Me By Your Name, with additional nominations for Directing, Supporting Actor and Cinematography. I’d even give the latter three to this as well. Guadagnino was very underappreciated throughout that season, even on Goldderby.
P.S. – I will forever hold LAFCA in high regard because they were one of the few major organisations (perhaps even the only one) that recognised Call Me By Your Name‘s true worth and awarded it accordingly.

As unlikely as it seemed, even a Sufjan upset in Song would’ve been amazing. Mystery of Love is one of my favourite nominees in that category ever

Nicholas Britell would’ve been a deserving Oscar winner for either Beale Street or Moonlight. He recently won an Emmy for Succession so hopefully he’ll be recognised for his film work sooner or later
ReplyCopy URLOctober 25, 2019 at 7:41 pm #1203153142People keep talking about La La Land being robbed of Best Picture and that Moonlight did not deserve to win. Neither of these movies should have won Best Picture. I felt that Hidden Figures was better than both La La Land and Moonlight. I was disappointed when I saw La Land.
In hindsight if I were a voter this would’ve been the toughest year to vote using the preferential ballot. At different times I’ve had La La Land, Moonlight, Arrival and Hell or High Water at #1.

Didn’t many of them admit that they didn’t even see Twelve Years A Slave before voting for it? Yes, that movie was amazing and important but I thought Gravity or American Hustle should’ve won that year.

I’m glad someone else on this site likes American Hustle.

I mean how the HELL did Gre*n B*ok win over this MASTERPIECE of a screenplay.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 26, 2019 at 12:21 am #1203153356I LOVE Regina King but I still think Rachel Weisz deserved an oscar for The Favourite. Is category fraud to blame here?

If you’re asking if Weisz lost because they thought she was category fraud, then no. I mean Ali won his 2nd in 3 years and he was worse category fraud than Weisz. They could care less. I don’t think many people outside these forums care very much.

No. Colman’s victory had greater sting if The Favourite lost every other category.
