Gyllenhaal not getting nominated for take your pick. Should have swept for Nightcrawler! Eddie Redmayne beating him is a disgrace!

Part of me thinks that if Gyllenhaal HAD been nominated for Nightcrawler, he would’ve won the SAG and Oscar.

The Pianist should’ve won Best Picture.

Even if you think so, Schindler’s List winning Best Picture should never be anywhere close a worst Oscar decisions list.

Seeing recent comments about Eddie Redmayne’s win, I started to realize that it’s probably not going to age very well. First off, he beat Michael Keaton for Birdman, the big critical favorite in that year’s Best Picture winner who also had a strong comeback narrative on his side. And then there’s the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal and Ralph Fiennes weren’t nominated for Nightcrawler and Grand Budapest Hotel. Like Keaton, those were adored performances that still have people talking about them, while Redmayne’s film and performance only seem to be discussed when people say Keaton (and sometimes Gyllenhaal) should’ve won. I think Keaton, Gyllenhaal, and Fiennes’ performances will he looked back as classic turns and characters, which will make it seem odd that one of them was beaten and two weren’t even nominated.

Nominate Jonah Hill over Daniel Bruhl, and Denzel Washington over James Franco (I know that allegations but…)

FYC Emmy: Drama Series ー ACTOR (Tobias Menzies), ACTRESS (Olivia Colman),
SUP. ACTOR (Ben Daniels, Jason Watkins, Mark Duplass), SUP. ACTRESS (Helena Bonham Carter, Erin Doherty, Gugu Mbatha-Raw),
GUEST ACTOR (Josh O'Connor, Charles Dance, Derek Jacobi), GUEST ACTRESS (Jane Lapotaire, Geraldine Chaplin)

Benigni was exactly the kind of baity win which annoys me. I understand not wanting to give Hanks a third so soon, but Edward Norton should’ve been in the running

The Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey was criminally snubbed, Tom Hanks wasn’t gonna win a 3rd Oscar so soon, Edward Norton wasn’t going to win since he wasn’t nominated at the Globes or SAG and he was the only nominee for his film. The original frontrunner for the longest time WAS Ian McKellen, and also there’s Nick Nolte, who would’ve been a worthy winner too, and whom many thought would win for The Prince of Tides. So yeah, again, Benigni’s win has aged extraordinarily badly.

And Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) over Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler)!!

Considering who got nominated, Bradley was actually my 2nd choice after Keaton. I would’ve taken out Cumberbatch or Redmayne and put Carell in supporting.

Just in general, American sniper was very different and far better than I’d expected.

Inception not winning Best Original Score in 2010…. That still hurts

I’m with this. Hans Zimmer is my favourite composer. Inception’s score is so good.

I’m still salty The Favourite went home with just one award. ONE! It deserved so much better. I’m also still salty that How Far I’ll Go lost to City of Stars.

I thought the best song that year was Another Day of Sun, never understood why the La La Land team pushed those other two

    Another Day of Sun

I personally am not a massive La La Land fan, so I actually didn’t really like City of Stars and actually don’t think Stone is a strong singer, but that’s just me.

Viola Davis in The Help losing to Meryl Streep in Iron Lady
Chris Terrio’s Argo screenplay beating Tony Kushner’s Lincoln

I am still also annoyed that Linklater didn’t get an Oscar for Boyhood. Social Network should have won Best Picture and Director, or at least one of them.

Pirates of the Caribbean 1 received 5 Oscar nominations (including a very deserved nomination for Johnny Depp) but did not get nominated for it’s iconic Original Score, which has gone down as one of the best and most prolific scores in film history. Considering which films actually did get nominated for Original Score that year (Big Fish, Cold Mountain, House of Sand and Fog: LOL) they made a colossal mistake.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay
