Tom Hanks missing for Captain Phillips is an egregious snub that baffles me to this day…

    Jennifer Lopez for Hustlers.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

I think it might have been 11 years ago, but I feel like the legendary Alan Menken getting snubbed for “The Star Spangled Man,” in a year where they only ended up with two nominees, was a big driver toward a standard five-song nomination list.

Kristen Stewart in Clouds of Sils Maria, Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers, and Bill Murray in On the Rocks are performances that should’ve won but weren’t even nominated, so my vote goes to them.

-Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci (supernova)
    -Ryan Gosling (blue Valentine)

I imagine we are only talking about those who stood a chance to get nominated only. If so, Gone Girl only getting one nomination is possibly the worst of the last decade.

Some others I noticed while checking the shortlisted films:

Visual effects: Ad Astra, Alita: Battle Angel (!!), Batman v Superman, Cloud Atlas.

Foreign Language Film: La Llorona, Atlantics, and more I haven’t seen.

    Carey Mulligan -Wildlife

    Michael Fassbender – Shame

    Aaron Taylor-Johnson – Nocturnal Animals

    Jennifer Lopez – Hustlers

I loved Atlantics, didn’t remember it was on the short list!

It won Animated, and was even in discussion for Picture and Screenplay noms early in the season. And that’s on top of being an actual real world hit single, I still baffled at how Try Everything missed.

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

Gone Girl missing Adapted Screenplay when it should have easily won was horrendous.
