Tom Hanks missing for Captain Phillips is an egregious snub that baffles me to this day…

January 11, 2022 at 2:41 pm #1204716297I think it might have been 11 years ago, but I feel like the legendary Alan Menken getting snubbed for “The Star Spangled Man,” in a year where they only ended up with two nominees, was a big driver toward a standard five-song nomination list.

Bo Burnham- Eighth Grade (screenwriting)
Toni Collette- Hereditary
Carey Mulligan- Wildlife
Michael Fassbender- ShameJanuary 11, 2022 at 3:17 pm #1204716414I imagine we are only talking about those who stood a chance to get nominated only. If so, Gone Girl only getting one nomination is possibly the worst of the last decade.
Some others I noticed while checking the shortlisted films:
Visual effects: Ad Astra, Alita: Battle Angel (!!), Batman v Superman, Cloud Atlas.
Foreign Language Film: La Llorona, Atlantics, and more I haven’t seen.

And that’s on top of being an actual real world hit single, I still baffled at how Try Everything missed.
