Whoever played Jar Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace.

Ahmed Best. I haven’t seen the film since I was a young kid so I barely remember it, but from what I’ve been led to understand the badness of his character wasn’t his fault, he was doing a job and was possibly misdirected. The backlash was so intense he later contemplated suicide, so I think we should give the guy a break.

Pacino’s the only decent thing in that movie. He actually put in effort, which is more than anyone else involved did.

Though the fact that he had to waste his time on it is arguably the worst thing about the film.

Jet Li and DMX in Cradle to the Grave. I was forced to watch that movie with my family when it came out in theaters. Lord that acting. At least Jet Li has an excuse of a language barrier and like Jackie Chan he may not have understood half his dialogue (Jackie Chan did say that regarding his American films).

At least they’re not professional actors.

If we’re talking about supposedly good performances that you found bad, I think the one scene between Rosemarie DeWitt and Ryan Gosling in La La Land was one of the worst, least-tries I’ve seen in an Oscar-calibre film.

I also grew up with my cousins who were Ming Na Wen’s age making fun of her acting in Joy Luck Club.

    Auntie Lindo: “June…the twins…they alive.”
June: “What do you mean? They’re alive?”

Us watching: “WTF bitch, did I stuttuh?”

Frances McDormand in Nomadland. Probably not the worst, but one of them.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

Jesse in Batman vs Superman was so horrible. I could not believe it.

Hard to tell but Neil Patrick Harris in Gone Girl comes to mind because he is obviously the worst actor in that very excellent ensemble.

James Corden in just about anything he’s in, but special shoutout to The Emoji Movie and Cats.

    FYC:

Best Screenplay: Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hitman)
Best Actress: Sidney Flanigan ("Never Rarely Sometimes Always")

Yeah I think the thing with Jar Jar and a lot of the characters in TPM is that the racial stereotyping is so outrageous in that movie there was basically no way to make them good.

This is tough one. I can choose multiple performances that I think the worst. But if I had to chose ONE, it would be

    Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle

    Runners up:

    Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook

    Bradley Cooper, American Hustle

    Natalie Portman, Closer

    Mark Wahlberg, The Happening

    Cynthia Erivo, Harriet
