*If Jennifer Lawrence had won for that Razzie-worthy performance in American Hustle, she would be my easy pick. Just remember how close she was to victory in 2014.

Lmfao imagine uttering this, even though the actual razzie worthy performance won!

Omg Jennifer Hudson! She was so bad that I forgot to include it in a worst-of list.

Don’t lump Regina King into this trash. She was excellent and earned her Oscar fair and square.

But there are plenty of unpopular winners I’ll defend. All eight glorious minutes of Judi Dench in Shakespeare in Love for instance. (I also don’t think it was just a makeup win for Mrs Brown; that idea is pure revisionism.)

The Academy has a pattern of awarding Best Actress losers with supporting actress immediately after.

I think she was an underwhelming choice considering Weisz doing career best work.

    Weisz was never winning again.

I’m surprised more early wins aren’t being mentioned:

    Gale Sondergaard
    Alice Brady
    Ethel Barrymore
    Gloria Grahame

    All terribly uninteresting (overacted) performances.

Helen Hayes should not have won for “Airport”. Her costar Maureen Stapleton was superior……as was Karen Black in “Five Easy Pieces”. I would have ranked Hayes third above Sally Kellerman (MASH) & Lee Grant (The Landlord)……but really the race should have been between Stapleton & Black with (in my opinion anyway) Stapleton winning.

I’ve never understood the hate Lupita gets for her performance.

Only more recently. But even then it doesn’t necessarily indicate an apology of some sort; why would so many Academy members suddenly regret their decision merely a year or two afterwards? Concerning Dench, she was playing one of the most famous British queens in history, her lines laden with zingers, in a Best Picture winner backed by Weinstein. Of course she would win.

If you pay attention it has been happening since there was a supporting category to appease those who couldn’t clench victory in the lead category. I don’t think Hunt’s win was popular with voters. I feel like they carried on a tradition that started with in the 70s when Nicholson won his first Oscar — making sure his female costar was also victorious. See him win again in supporting and his female costar also winning in Best Actress.

A combination of a racism or being a Stan for JLaw.
