how are Hawkins or Ronan overdue?

Hawkins was a critical favorite denied entry at the 2009 ceremony for Happy Go-Lucky. Her nod for Blue Jasmine held hope for some she’d win but everything was Jennifer and Lupita in her category. Since her movie won best picture there is no reason to believe she couldn’t beat a previous winner in her category of best actress. Ronan was seen as win worthy for Brooklyn so when Lady Bird became a critical darling everyone assumed she’d have a chance to win on her third nomination. Again nothing on paper suggested McDormand was unbeatable to her competition.

What movie did you people see? Because all I saw was Frances McDormand playing Frances McDormand. There was no real difference between her character and her real life self. Just look at Frances in interview clips. It’s like you’re watching the same character from Three Billboards. So I’d say yes, Glenn would win partly because Glenn had/has the overdue factor in her favor whereas Frances had already won an Oscar.

She might have gotten the fifth slot from Meryl but even Meryl had a Best Picture nominee on her hands. The answer is a definite no.

She wouldn’t have gone anywhere close to the nominations in the first place. Even with Streep out, there were still too many better options like Vicky Krieps, Brooklyn Prince, Judy Dench, Michel Williams, etc all in popular movies with performances 99.9% better than Glenn’s too.

    Taron Egerton = Rocketman
    Joaquin Phoenix = Joker
Eddie Murphy = Dolemite is my Name

Brad Pitt = Once upon a time in Hollywood

Btw, that award should have gone to Margot Robbie. Tonya Harding was the best performance of 2017 by a long mile. The movie was great but highly underrated. Frances was playing the same role she has become comfortable with and her movie was crap. Even Hawkins would have been a better option but Ronan was the most overrated of that season.

people throw that word around too much. Glenn is actually overdue. Winslet was overdue. Cicely Tyson is overdue. not Ronan and Hawkins

Not even being nominated for Happy-Go-Lucky made her automatically overdue.

I don´t think so. Last year was weird for the Best Actress category, i´m still amazed how mcdormmand won everything in her path.

Winslet got hers. Hopefully Glenn will too. But imagine how great would it be for Tyson to get a competitive Oscar.
