She is definetely not a white latina. I’m 95% sure she has native american ancestry. White latina is someone like Gisele Bundchen.

Secondly, J.Lo never stole from Black women. Those singers were used by producers as background vocals. Mainly in choruses. A technique that has been utilized in many different songs (i.e. Michael Jackson’s uncredited features on Diana Ross’s “Eaten Alive” & Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me”).
Thirdly, J.Lo IS a woman of color and rightfully should be included on user’s lists. You’re not Black or Brown yourself. So who are you to dictate someone else’s ethnicity/race?
It’s sad that someone’s assumptions and biases would derail a thread recognizing POC. But considering your history it’s not surprising.

Marsha Stephanie Blake, LuceDecember 25, 2020 at 4:36 pm #1203945239The way no one here putted Cynthia Erivo for Harriet. Most people love to see it.
In no way she was bad, but she didn’t do anything extraordinary. It’s discusting she got nominated over Lupita’s out-of-this-world (yes, out-of-this-world) performance. Lupita changed her voice, her accent, mannerisms etc.

5. Bokeem WOODBINE in QUEEN & SLIMDecember 25, 2020 at 10:57 pm #1203945478Great lists. My two cents is that white Latinas are definitely white but the award shows only like a certain kind of white woman and that often doesn’t include open white Latinas. Too me this issue is not, for lack of a better term, white and black the way both sides believe that it is.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 26, 2020 at 5:31 am #1203945783There’s no such thing as “a certain kind of white.” “Whiteness” exists as a non-existent category in the face of the very real construction of “blackness.” If you’re not “black,” or a member of some other racialized group, you’re white; which is where Miss Wannabe-Black-Woman-in-the-Green-Dress-That-Won’t-Die finds herself. She’s a white latine. Same as a white Hungarian or a white Canadian.
