Picking your personal winners is easy…so what if Cannes rules applied to your individual winners?

Cannes rules being that a film can ONLY win ONE award. No more.

Your Best Picture pick cannot be the same as your Best Director/Adapted Screenplay/Score/Editing etc.

E.g. if Parasite wins your Best Picture, it then becomes ineligible for Director, International Film and everything else.

At the end of your selection you could have up to 24 different films represented across 24 different categories.

(Also, no ties. They annoy me no end on personal winner lists).

This sounds like a fun idea – are we confined to just the Oscar nominees or can we pick any film from 2019?

Can’t believe I was able to do it. If I had it my way, Joker would be ignored altogether, but the nominations this year were so repetitive that it was virtually impossible to do so. I’m willing to concede score in the name of supporting women in all categories.

ScarJo probably wouldn’t win either of my personal awards, but Bombshell only got hype because of its make-up (the Kelly makeover is lowkey impressive), Gerwig’s revolutionary screenplay was undeniable for me, and I couldn’t bring myself to award Bates / Dern / Erivo / Zellweger.

Either, whichever you want to use. It’s probably not even that easy when applying to every single film you’ve seen last year.
