I think Ariana and Rihanna are locked in at this point. I can see Selena Gomez sneaking in though – the AMAs love her and if her album does as well as Revival did, she’ll be a front runner too.  Post Malone, Drake and Cardi B will probably also be front runners. I’m excited for next year for sure

Can the AMAs stop nominating Hip Hop albums and artists in Pop this year? How is it fair that Drake can win Best Pop/Rock Album AND Best Hip-Hop Album?

Honey, Pop is short for popular. Drake qualifies since he’s popular. Duh!

AMAs dont care about your complaints. Nominees in categories are based on the charts in which the artists and songs are classified in. Drake had hits on the pop charts (Hot 100 and Billboard 200) and was the best performing male artist in sales and chart success so it obviously makes sense. Same for the Migos. Migos was one of the 3 best performing group in the pop charts so of course they would be nominated for Pop/Rock Group. That’s why I always say to look at the Year-End Charts for either male, female or group artists and you will understand why hip-hop, soul, country, and latin acts can be nominated in the pop category with ease. Because pop not only means a specific type of genre, it is also music overall. “Not Afraid” is considered a pop song because it’s popular.

Thats his opinion! Obviously they aren’t gonna come on here and do what we want but he was giving his opinion… it’s not that deep

I don’t mind Drake getting Pop artist noms, but how is Views eligible for Pop AND Rap Album? It just seems like a waste of space to me. Either label it Pop or label it Hip-Hop.

They nominate Pop artists in R&B, so I don’t see what the issue is.

If you look at the Year-End Charts for the Billboard 200 (Pop) and Rap Albums, Views was the second best performing overall album in 2016 after Adele was #1 with 25. Views was the #1 best performing album in the Rap Albums chart. It makes absolute sense. It is what it is.

The Billboard 200 is an overall chart, not a Pop Albums chart.

Obviously it’s his opinion. A common opinion that the AMAs don’t give a shit about. You all act like it’s controversial. Like the time that there weren’t much female nominees in 2017 or the fact that there was one female nominee in Artist of the Year. It’s just a damn award that is based off of chart and sale success. Why can’t people get that?

The Billboard 200 is an overall chart, not a Pop Albums chart.

What is pop short for? Popular. Popular means overall. Billboard 200 is the pop albums chart. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Well the term Pop can be used both in that context and as a specific genre description. Otherwise, how do you describe the music of the likes of Katy Perry and Ariana Grande, genre-wise? (I know Ariana dabbles in R&B but that’s not the point). It’s like how there’s a pop field at the Grammys that’s sonically-based.
