Following up on Karol’s suggestion to compile a list of potential nominees by genre to aid NuCat in providing submissions once voting begins. I thought I’d get a headstart since I’ve been keeping tabs on the pop nominees all year. I may try to do a list of rap candidates in a separate thread later. Anyone who’s following country, rock/alternative, and R&B more closely may wish to compile a list of candidates instead, since those genres aren’t really my forte.
Please point out anything I’m forgetting. Trying to be as comprehensive as possible.

Wasn’t sure what song to put down. I went with Gimme because it was the first single.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 11, 2018 at 12:16 pm #1202650832Won’t happen, but: Avril Lavigne for Best Pop Solo Performance; DJ Snake featuring Selena Gomez, Ozuna, & Cardi B for Pop Duo Group, and XXXTentacion’s SAD! in Pop Solo (+ his album in Pop Vocal)
ReplyCopy URLOctober 11, 2018 at 1:36 pm #1202650905Get real! XXXTentacion will NOT be submitted to Pop. He’ll be in Rap or Urban Contemporary.

October 12, 2018 at 9:38 am #1202651409Looking at the Pop Duo/Group/Collaboration contenders, there are a lot of different ways that voters can go! I think the only safe bets for noms are “Meant To Be” (assuming it doesn’t go country) and “The Middle”. I would then guess “Girls Like You” but after that, it’s anyone’s game to get in.
I do wonder if Grammy voters are going to go for “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. It kind of stands out amongst that list. Voters did nominate the cast of Glee that one year, so anything is possible.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 12, 2018 at 9:50 am #1202651416I think Greatest Showman will suprise a lot of people
– AOTY nomination
-SOTY nomination
-Pop Group/Duo Nomination
-Visual Media Album
-Visual Media Song ( This Is Me)
-Possibly Visual Media Song (Never Enough)
ReplyCopy URLOctober 12, 2018 at 10:12 am #1202651441So is Ed submitting to pop solos or pop duo/group?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 12, 2018 at 8:01 pm #1202651709Post Malone will probably get in across the board (Pop Solo, Pop Duo/Group, Pop Album).
He’s had a huge year and the categories are pretty weak.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 16, 2018 at 6:40 am #1202653696Pop Solo Performance:
– “Perfect (Acoustic)”- Ed Sheeran
– “Delicate” – Taylor Swift
– “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”- Kelly Clarkson
– “In My Blood”- Shawn Mendes
– “I Like Me Better” – Lauv
ALT: “No Tears Left to Cry” – Ariana Grande
This category tends to favor “Adult Top 40” types of songs, which is why I’m expecting Ariana to be left out. All the songs, expect Clarkson’s, are all over adult radio, so I see them being nominated. Clarkson will be nominated based on her Grammy history, vocal ability, and visibility.Pop Duo/Group Performance:
– “Finesse”- Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B
– “Hunger”- Florence + the Machine
– “Sit Next to Me”- Foster the People
– “The Shallow”- Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
– “The Middle”- Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey
ALT: “Whatever It Takes”- Imagine Dragons (I’m assuming this will go Rock)
This category has also leaned heavily adult radio since its inception, and though Hunger and Shallow aren’t on radio (yet), I’m expecting Florence to get in since its a marvelous song, and Gaga to get in because Shallow is peaking right during the voting period.Pop Vocal Album:

Reputation – Taylor Swift
The Meaning of Life – Kelly Clarkson
Shawn Mendes – Shawn Mendes
The Thrill of It All – Sam Smith
Sweetener – Ariana Grande
ALT: Beautiful Trauma – P!nkOctober 16, 2018 at 6:49 am #1202653697Ariana Grande is definitely getting in before LAUV, and “Girls Like You” WILL be nominated for Pop Duo/Group.
Y’all gotta think realistically with these predictions.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 16, 2018 at 7:07 am #1202653703Who do you predict winning in those 3 categories?
ReplyCopy URLOctober 16, 2018 at 7:32 am #1202653717
Ariana Grande is definitely getting in before LAUV, and “Girls Like You” WILL be nominated for Pop Duo/Group.

Y’all gotta think realistically with these predictions.

I disagree. Grande is definitely a bigger name than Lauv, but I think his song is more of what the Grammy voters will go for, in the same vein as “I Took A Pill in Ibiza.” I wouldn’t be surprised if Grande got in over Lauv (he’s probably my fifth pick), but I think its a song that will resonate more than NTLTC.
As for “Girls Like You,” I thought about it, but I don’t see Cardi B getting two nominations in the same category, and I think last year proved that the Grammys like Bruno Mars, so I see them selecting “Finesse” in place of Maroon 5. I know its really popular right now, but its not really that good of a song.
