I’m surprised to see that Bazzi’s Mine is the fourth biggest pop song of the year according to Nielsen’s mid-year report, bigger than No Tears Left to Cry and Never Be the Same. I wonder if it’s a Pop Solo contender.\

EDIT: It’s also #9 for the year across all genres. Wow.

I was referring to the 2009 cycle for the 2010 Grammy Awards.

    Thank you. (smiles)

What according to you guys would the Country field look like?

What I would like to know is what else is to be released before the current eligibility period is done. There is still two and a half months left of it. Does anyone know what is going to be out there next month and the month after that?

    God bless you two always!!!

    Holly

He has a better shot for SOTY than Pop Solo because popularity seems to rule the Pop categories. Case in point why Lorde couldnt even sneak in Pop Vocal Album last year.

And it’s awful. I can’t decide which one is the worst if it’s Mine or Never Be the Same.
The Grammys better find some unknown good acts to nominated in Pop Solo, because right now it looks beyond terrible.

At least back when the Pop Performance categories were split by gender, we usually got 1 or 2 left field nominees. After they were combined, it’s been pure hits with heavy radio airplay.

Pop Field needs a nominations review committee. Nominating only bestsellers + Kelly Clarkson since 2010 is awful and makes the Grammys feel less and less credible. Specially now that Pop is being overshadowed by Rap and there aren’t good options to choose among the big hits.

Mostly, popular pop music is the best among the genre.

If not it’s either tumblr-esque bullshit or teen pop.

That says more of the state of Pop as a whole rather than the taste of the Grammy’s.

Honey, Best Pop Solo Performance is dreadful. Now, I’m starting to think that Taylor Swift’s atrocious “Delicate” will get in. BARF!!

‘New Light’ by John Mayer is the third most listened rock song this year. Does he have a chance of being nominated in the rock field? The GF looks like a long shot.

The rest of the list is dominated by Imagine Dragons. ‘Born to Be Yours’ by Imagine Dragons and Kygo is most listened rock song of 2018 by now, but I still think ‘Whatever it Takes’ is better and will be submitted. In this case I wouldn’t be surprise at all if ‘Whatever it Takes’ grabs a nom in ROTY.

It seems like voters have moved on from John Mayer. I can’t even remember the last time he was nominated.

New Light is actually a good song and even non John Mayer fans who are not familiar with his work can bopping to that.

New Light is definitely a Pop Solo contender, not Rock Performance.

Have It All by Jason Mraz is good enough to put him back in SOTY, but the biggest obstacle would be getting enough votes to make the top 20.
