Yeah but 21 is ultra popular to the audience, with highest selling number this decade?? I mean Pitchfork users are still the general audience regardless, let’s not pretend they live under a rock specifically.

Y’all are confusion being good with being excellent. 21 is a good album, but again, there’s nothing interesting about it. Critics like albums that challenge their ears or that represent artistic evolution from an artist.

I was specifying the users’ list only.

Pitchfork’s users are 20 y/o hipsters who don’t listen to radio.

I think Q Magazine will release their best albums list on December. Based on November issue, it has been confirmed that Video Games was at #1 for the best songs of the decade.

21 shits all over any other album released this decade. The critics just don’t like it when someone is too big and popular for their reviews to remotely matter. So they can stay in their little bubble that no one cares about while 21 continues to be one of the best albums of all time and the best selling album of all time.

The meltdown already. It’s funny because people say they don’t give shit about critic lists but they are also the same people who fume the most in the thread. Chile a bit, it’s not that deep 😂

I actually agree with you for once. I don’t think 21 sh*ts over *all* albums this decade, but snubbing it from top 100 albums so consistently is glaring.

And I disagree with another user who said 21 isn’t excellence. Of course it’s subjective but just because Adele does singer-songwriter soul music doesn’t mean she isn’t pushing envelopes. Her album is arguably of better quality lyrically and musically than at least some of the albums on these lists.

Anyway, I don’t think 21 is omitted from these lists because of quality. The album is too big, popular and celebrated to warrant their attention, apparently.

it’s not wrong what you’re suggesting, but it’s not so much a technicality as it is a collective, potentially unconscious mindset amongst writers. musical journalism is at its core a form of consumer guide, why tell people to buy 21 when every other person on the planet has a copy

This is a good way of thinking about it. I’m definitely taking these rankings as a grain of salt from now on. It’s less “Top Y Best Records of X Time Period,” but more of “A great collection of music you may or may not have missed this decade.”

I hope some people can purchase the November issue of Q Magazine and reveal the full list of the 82 songs of the decade. I can only trace three songs so far :

    • Bon Iver – “Holocene”
    • PJ Harvey – “Let England Shake”
    • Coldplay – “Paradise”

And these 50 albums have secured their places in the Top 100 best albums of the 2010s according to the staffs and members of Genius Community. The list will be revealed on early November.
