VenturaJuly 23, 2019 at 11:02 am #1202991789He should submit “Cross Me” to Rap/Sung . If Christina Aguilera can get in last year, he can too especially with Chance.
“Cross Me” is way poppier than “Like I Do,” and Chance’s songs with DJ Khaled were both moved to Pop Duo/Group.

Well They both had Justin Bieber on them as the main artist singing on the song.
But Cross Me sounds like it could make the cut..

Cross Me is POPPY yes… but they are rap/singing the entire song. Even Ed is Rap-singing.
And “Cross Me” has Ed Sheeran as the main artist singing on it. It would be laughed out of Rap/Sung.
Best Rap/Sung Performance
For a solo or collaborative performance containing both elements of R&B melodies and Rap.https://www.grammy.com/sites/com/files/61stpresslist01222019.pdf
If “I’m the One”, which was an urban radio hit, wasn’t considered to have met this criteria, “Cross Me” surely won’t.
July 23, 2019 at 11:55 am #1202991914^ He has Antisocial with Travis Scott where both of them are “rapping” their verses. Needless to say that he won’t win if he gets in either way.
July 23, 2019 at 12:12 pm #1202991944I’m thinking “This Land” the song has a better chance in the GF than the album. Although, the fact that Gary Clark Jr. is more of a rock artist could help him. There are a lot of strong black artists in contention and some of them are bound to cancel each other out. Lizzo and Khalid are more pop, but they could both end up submitted to Urban Contemporary with Anderson .Paak and Solange… how many of them will get into AOTY? And then you have Tyler, the Creator and Chance the Rapper. I don’t really see 21 Savage being much of a factor in the GF.
If a rock/alt act gets in, I think it would be Vampire Weekend. Their last three albums debuted at number one, their last album won Best Alt Album, and their latest has considerable acclaim. Ezra Koenig has also garnished considerable industry cred over the years. I see them getting in before the likes of The National, The 1975, etc.
That being said… who could actually win? I don’t see any of the aforementioned actually winning…
July 23, 2019 at 12:21 pm #1202991960So if “I’m the One” didn’t meet the criteria, then how does “Old Town Road” w/Billy Ray Cyrus?
And “I Like It” didn’t contain any R&B elements.
