If they had 5 nominees, I would say we could have a Leona Lewis/Lorde situation with Billie.

Billie isn’t a lock. Lizzo can definitely win. Truth Hurts is shaping up to be a really big hit. It’ll probably be an 8 or 9 week #1.

Yes, you’re right.. I think the winner is gonna be either Lizzo or Billie. I’ll be very happy if any of those ladies takes it!

Lizzo is really coming in strong. I watched her interview on CBS Sunday Morning and it was a great piece. Very touching. More interviews like that and she could really upset Billie for BNA.

Does anyone know if DaBaby submitted for Best New Artist this year? He’s making a lot of buzz right now at an important time for him if he did.

    winning makes you ineligible?

Yup , cuz you’re not considered a new artist. Same thing happened to Cardi bc BY was nominated twice in the Rap Field’s. Back in ‘18

I keep going back and forth about Summer Walker and Ari Lennox.

Summer had a record-breaking streaming week and big first week sales at the right time. Along with a bunch of high-profile collabs.

Ari had a quieter debut but has gained fans/momentum throughout the year. She opened for Lizzo on tour. She is funny and enjoyable online, and performed at Black Girls Rock. She also has Dreamville behind her.

I wish they could both make it but BNA seems too crowded for multiple R&B noms.

If Summer Walker isn’t nominated this year, I think she stands a great chance at being nominated next year. Her debut album came out after the eligibility period, so even though it was a hit, I think that’s going to hurt her chances.

I think Ari Lennox has the better shot of scoring a nom in BNA since she has her critically-acclaimed debut album eligible this year.

In terms of who is winning this category… since it seems neck and neck between Billie and Lizzo… what happens if they split the vote??? Who would take the win in that case?

Was Alec Benjamin not entered this year?

I mean I like his songwriting style but he needs to stop sounding like a 12 year old.

Alec Benjamin can definitely sneak in (if submitted). He’s got some support from past winners and his style is liked by the Grammy’s.

    my BNA Lineup:

    Lizzo
    Billie
    Ari Lennox
    Rosalia
    Lewis Capaldi
    Juice WRLD
    Weyes Blood
    Tyler Childers

I think that Maggie Rogers girl will get snubbed.

Juice WRLD did nothing major outside of “Lucid Dreams,” which happened last eligibility and got snubbed. No way he’s in before Maggie Rogers.

Is Weyes Blood eligible for this category? Why?

I don’t think the BNA curse is real, but if it is, then I would want Billie to win over Lizzo.

I want Lizzo to have a longer career. Billie’s music doesn’t interest me, and I consider her an industry plant/fad. (My opinion, Eyelashes).

Lizzo makes more interesting and organic music (to me) even though her last album was far from perfect. But I’m sure the backlash will be intense if she wins BNA over Billie, especially considering the high amount of discretion awarded to her eligibility. Billie can take this, and I’ll be predicting that too.
