Slipknot’s new album is predicted to debut @ #1 next week, and it currently has a 93 on Metacritic.

Are they the last minute contenders?

Maybe, they’ve had 2 (3) #1 albums with NUMEROUS Metal/Rock nominations and only 1 win. But this is their only album with immense critical acclaim. the amount of publications that gave this 5 starts is insane. Im not sure what’s the different between this album then the rest but but they’ll probably put it in AOTY to add more diversity since it seems like it’ll be mostly pop music.

I have nothing against people who like Billie Eilish (we all have different tastes), but to consider her Grammy-worthy, that’s where I have issue and do not see the appeal.

That’s nice. You’re probably not going to have a very great January 26.

there’s something called Google. and its free.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallen_(Evanescence_album)

I know it’s not “metal” but this probably the closest to an metal album being recognized in AOTY. unless someone knows another one

‘Bad Guy’ is about to peak on radio and has peaked in sales/streams so there is no point in trying to push it to #1 now.

Bad Guy wont hit #1 in Hot 100. I think we might expect a new #1 song by the first week of September likely Cruel Summer(rumored 3rd single from Taylor Swift).

Hello by Adele is such a beautiful song!! I wish she did release this year. Oh well, the Grammys will have to work with what they’ve got this year.

Honey I will not allow the disrespect of Lorde ‘s name be on this forum! Whoever says it’s a bland pop song doesn’t even realize the song’s importance in pop music. Lorde and in some cases Lana help commercialize the moody little-fi unconventional pop aesthetic we have today. This helped spawn Billie Eilish who now don’t seem unconventional anymore. This moody song helped allowed for slower, lower register singing in pop music. The song wasn’t created to sing like “Whitney Houston” because almost everyone can sound like if they have really good vocals.  That’s why these shows like American Idol and X Factor were, to find a capable pop star/singer. But besides the point, both aren’t trying to appeal to the masses, yet ironically they both received massive critical and commercial acclaim for their work. Royals was a refreshing drift from all the music from Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry that year. Whoever speak badly of the name definitely doesn’t understand it’s relevance and importance within the pop genre.

    Slipknot, Tool, Rammstein…

I can’t understand why Grammys didn’t create a category for best metal album.

Although metal is a subgenre of rock, it has a lot of subgenres as well. Evanescence is, and always was, a nu-metal/symphonic-metal band.

The song Royals is bland af. The beat is too simple and the melody isn’t particularly good either. Pure Heroine is a great album, anyway.

Royals beat was made minimal to pay attention to the song rather than the actual beats. It wasn’t made to be this gargantuan pop banger. There really isn’t a melody on the track. And if you hate the song or think it’s boring, that’s your opinion. It wasn’t made to appeal to anyone, yet it appealed to everyone.
