It reminds me of Kendrick Lamar, who go love from his genre in 2017, but got shut out of SOTY for his song Humble. Not saying hat Ariana and Kendrick are similar artists, but it feels the same way.

I don’t think Ariana missing SOTY says anything about her support/seriousness. While we can’t be certain, it’s a good bet that she made the top 20 and was passed by the panel for whatever reason.December 18, 2019 at 7:00 pm #1203243450
Bro, SOTY-nominated or not, Ariana still wouldn’t be taken that seriously.December 18, 2019 at 7:01 pm #1203243453
ROTY – Bad Guy
AOTY – WWAFA, WDWG?
SOTY – Lover or Bad Guy
BNA – Billie Eilish
As of now, we’re not expecting a full sweep from Billie Eilish. She will only lose 1 Grammy award which is SOTY.December 18, 2019 at 7:04 pm #1203243458

I agree and disagree with you on some points. I think she has support in her pop categories, I mean look Boyfriend got a pop duo nomination. But I really do think her chances are hindered in the general field when other bigger tracks like Bad Guy and Truth Hurts are nominated. Also the fact that Gaga, Taylor, H.E.R., and Lewis Capaldi are nominated before Ariana Grande is awkward to say the least.

No one is going to watch it, but had it had received critical acclaim T. Swift would have gotten some buzz during the voting process.December 18, 2019 at 8:13 pm #1203243496

It was never going to receive critical acclaim with those effects but the whole basis of pretty much planning the entire movie campaign around her for her 5 minutes in the movie might end up backfiring. If the movie continues on this trajectory then I can see headlines around it being her movie failing despite the limited involvement she actually had
That being said, I don’t think the affect will that bad. She still has a lot of public goodwillDecember 18, 2019 at 8:19 pm #1203243503
SOTY is committee-based. If Ariana made it into Pop Duo with a flop single then Thank U Next probably made it into SOTY, they just shut it out to make space for more people. Being older than most nominees didn’t help either.December 18, 2019 at 9:47 pm #1203243542
I thought that the anthropomorphic cat people created a kind of uncanny valley effect that gave the movie trailer a creepy and surreal aesthetic. I probably won’t see the movie anyway since I don’t like musicals, but I guess I’m in the minority that thinks the cat people look sort of cool.December 18, 2019 at 11:03 pm #1203243620
