Now that I think about it, Meek Mill can definitely win Best Rap Album. Championships is the most successful album, and he has a lot of industry friends. He seems to be the biggest name that’s not J. Cole, who is credited under Dreamville. I’m almost willing to predict it.
Rap Album, despite the usual heavyweights, is one of the most competitive categories of the year. It could go to anyone, except maybe YBN Cordae. But who knows? Anderson.Paak beat out Drake last year.December 22, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1203247435
Whoever wins Best Pop Solo among them will probably win AoTY.
I don’t think those two categories are that related.
For example, while I’m not predicting her, voters could award Ariana AOTY thanks to having a huge era, while awarding Billie Pop Solo + ROTY/SOTY for having a huge song (I know WWAFAWDWG was a big album, but the era itself only produced one real smash hit). Whoever wins Pop Vocal has the better shot in AOTY. Pop Solo is independent to AOTY.
I still think AOTY is between Vampire Weekend, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande (cue the inevitable Gucci comment “Bro, Ariana Grande and Vampire Weekend are NOT winning AOTY“). I’m giving Vampire Weekend the edge because they are not splitting with anyone. Ariana and Billie might divide the pop voters – because, as much as y’all like to deny it, Ariana will get a lot of pop votes. The fact that she’s already in name-check levels of her career indicates support. Lizzo could happen but meh.
I have Billie winning Pop Vocal and losing AOTY to Vampire Weekend. Ariana will likely leave empty-handed. I can’t see her winning unless she sweeps/half-sweeps.December 22, 2019 at 8:14 pm #1203247465
Vampire Weekend could split votes with Bon Iver and possibly Lana.December 22, 2019 at 9:05 pm #1203247496
Bro, I don’t see Meek Mill winning Best Rap Album. It’ll go to Tyler, the Creator or 21 Savage.December 22, 2019 at 9:59 pm #1203247509
She may not be categorized as a rock artists, but Norman Fucking Rockwell! is, to an extent, a rock record, and this is based on critics reviews.December 22, 2019 at 10:17 pm #1203247512
Fam, there is no correlation between AOTY and Pop Solo. It just so happens that Billie Eilish will win both AOTY and Pop Solo.December 22, 2019 at 10:57 pm #1203247526
what categories do we think are most likely for upsets?
Probably ROTY, SOTY, Best Rock Performance, Best alternative Album, and Best Soundtrack Compilation
ROTY – Bad Guy
SOTY – Lover
Best Rock Performance – Brittany Howard
Best Alternative Album – Bon Iver
Best Compilation Soundtrack – Game of ThronesDecember 23, 2019 at 12:07 am #1203247541
Bro, give it up! “Lover” is NOT happening in SOTY. #DelusionalDecember 23, 2019 at 12:32 am #1203247559
Saturday’s SNL episode had the highest ratings since May 2017.December 23, 2019 at 2:56 am #1203247586
Glad more and more people are realising that Ariana is a major threat in AOTY. She released a live album today by the way. She is the 1989 of this year: huge and acclaimed pop record by an established pop girl. She will win.December 23, 2019 at 3:04 am #1203247591

I agree, ari can win AOTY but comparing tun to 1989 is meaningless. 1989 is much more successful and awarded era than TUN era….
