Lana is also for her album
Not only that, but NFR also has a female engineer nominated (Laura Sisk) and Father of The Bride has a female mastering engineer (Emily Lazar).
People that want to get rid of the committees need to remember how they got started. In the 1985 awards ceremony, Lionel Richie won AOTY with “Can’t Slow Down” which might not seem so terrible until you remember the other nominees included Prince for “Purple Rain” and Bruce Springsteen for “Born in the U.S.A.”
Then in 1995, Tony Bennett’s MTV Unplugged album won over Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, and others.
Even worse, if we get rid of committees we still have the influence of the labels who are always pushing for their biggest sellers to receive the major awards.
Bob Lefsetz’s industry blog covers it quite well here:
Musicians may come and go, but the labels remain. Especially today. With consolidation.
Yup, the labels want Grammys for marketing purposes. They insist their employees block vote. They want to win, and you either play ball or you’re excommunicated.
Loved this part too:
Some of the categories have so few contenders that they essentially pass the Grammy around. Then, on all their bios, they put that they won said Grammy. The Brits have ten categories, they’ve gotten rid of even more than that. They’re willing to shake it up, stay current. Meanwhile, we’ve seen the same damn “Grammy moment” mash-up TV show for years.

I don‘t want my precious Ariana to win anything at that rigged, corrupt and moral lacking show. Not after they cheated on her that hard! TUN‘s lyrics are more iconic and impactful than all the SOTY nominees combined. Nothing but respect for my SOTY winner.
Bad Guy is more iconic than any Ariana songJanuary 22, 2020 at 2:39 am #1203298280
God is a woman definitely deserved a BMV nom but thank u next wasn’t that good. Still, would’ve nominated it over Old Town Road.January 22, 2020 at 3:42 am #1203298319

GIAW did not deserve BMV nomination. It was nothing outstanding. No Ariana video has ever deserved a BMV nomination-they are all so basic.January 22, 2020 at 4:55 am #1203298344
As much as I do like Ariana, GIAW mv needed some editing. By the end of the mv there were too many things happening. So if one of her mvs had to be nominated, i’d say NTLTC. Imo, of course.January 22, 2020 at 5:05 am #1203298356
Only stan twitter cared about GIAW mv. Furthermore, it’s not visually pleasing.January 22, 2020 at 5:20 am #1203298361
The Grammy’s have honestly been very fair to Ariana in general in terms of wins and noms. Everybody has a snub here and there.January 22, 2020 at 5:34 am #1203298373
So is it still a Lana for AOTY?January 22, 2020 at 5:43 am #1203298387

You say that as if past BMV winners are outstanding and not basic. The reason I brought it up is because TUN was the biggest MV in that eligibility period so if they were going in terms of which one made the most noise, it should’ve been nominated/won as opposed to OTR. Not saying it was necessarily the bestJanuary 22, 2020 at 6:21 am #1203298432
I don’t know how the Grammys will recover from such a shitstorm.
They should really start over, all new members, new rules, new ways of voting and choosing nominees. But we all know they don’t really care.
